13. Troubleshooting Procedures

This troubleshooting guide is for general aid only. A Kohler Authorized Service Representative or qualified
electrician should correct all electrical problems. For warranty service, contact your dealer or wholesale distributor.
Troubleshooting the Whirlpool System
Symptoms

Probable Causes
A. No power to pump motor.
B. Switch does not work.
C. Jets are blocked.
D. Pump circuit board does not work.
E. Switch disconnected from panel.
F. Motor/pump assembly does not
work.
A. Jet is closed.
B. Jet not installed correctly.
C. Jets are blocked.
A. GFCI trips.
B. Suction blocked.
C. Jets are blocked.
D. Motor overheated and protection
device activated.
E. Pump circuit board does not work.
A. Pump circuit board does not work.
A. Pump shimmed too high.
A. Pump banding straps have not been
cut.
B. Dislodged jet O ring.
A. Variable flow valve does not work.
Recommended Action
A. Set/Reset GFCI breaker; check wiring.
B. Replace switch.
C. Remove blockage.
D. Replace pump circuit board.
E. Reconnect wire at switch or pump.
F. Rebuild or replace motor and pump
assembly.
A. Rotate jet trim ring counterclockwise to
open.
B. Reinstall jet; check for O ring damage.
C. Remove blockage.
A. Identify source of fault, and correct.
B. Remove obstruction.
C. Remove blockage.
D. Check for blockage at motor vents.
Remove blockage and allow motor to
cool.
Check for suction blockage. Remove
blockage and allow motor to cool.
Check for jet blockage. Remove blockage
and allow motor to cool.
E. Replace pump circuit board.
A. Replace pump circuit board.
A. Lower pump base to subfloor level.
A. Cut pump banding straps with tin snips.
B. Remove jet, replace and lubricate O ring,
and reinstall jet.
A. Check for loose connections or wires
leading to pump motor. Replace variable
flow valve or pump circuit board if
necessary.
