Soil Moisture Sensor

1 Measuring electrodes
Measure soil moisture.
2 Temperature sensor
Measures the soil temperature.

Terminal Assignment

1 Brown wire
For supply voltage (VDC). It is connected to the terminal
marked "5V" on the STIHL GCI 100 Smart Garden Hub
(irrigation controller).

2 White wire
For ground connection. It is connected to the terminal
marked "GND" on the STIHL GCI 100 Smart Garden Hub
(irrigation controller).
3 Green wire
For output voltage of temperature sensor between 0 V
and 1.5 V. It cannot be connected to the STIHL GCI 100
Smart Garden Hub (irrigation controller). The STIHL GCI
100 does not support the temperature sensor.
4 Yellow wire
For output voltage of soil moisture sensor between 0 V
and 3 V. It is connected to the terminal marked "S1", "S2"
or "S3" on the STIHL GCI 100 Smart Garden Hub
(irrigation controller).

sensor:

3 Safety Precautions

3.1

Intended Use

The STIHL SMI 50 soil moisture sensor is designed to
measure soil moisture and temperature.
It can be connected to an irrigation controller (the STIHL GCI
100, for example).
WARNING
■ Using the soil moisture sensor for purposes for which it is
not designed may result in serious injuries and damage to
property.
► Use the soil moisture sensor as described in this
instruction manual.
► Use the soil moisture sensor outdoors only.
