User Manual for HK853 Common Rail Signal Unit
1.
Safety issues
Follow the safety precautions normally applied to injector testing. These primarily
are to keep hands away from the nozzle and to avoid breathing the fumes.
Voltage pulses up to 140V DC are output on the injector cable when the STATUS indicator
is on. Avoid contact with the injector lead plug when power is on.
Do not connect any other type of injector to the HK853; the injector may have different
current and voltage requirements and damage may result.
2.
Description
The HK853 unit drives the SIEMENS PIEZO CR common rail electronic injector. Two
controls allow pulse rate and width to be altered. Typical use is in conjunction with a
Hartridge Testmaster for injector spray and back leakage testing.
The electronic injector will not fire unless it has both sufficient supply pressure (around 200
bar minimum) and a voltage pulse. The HK853 provides the voltage pulse required by the
injector.
3.
Protection
A green START and a red STOP button are used to latch the power stage on and off. When
power is applied to the injector, the red led STATUS indicator turns on. The STATUS light is
located between the START and STOP buttons. This arrangement ensures that the injector
cannot pulse without the action of pressing the START button. If power is interrupted, the
power stage is unlatched.
Two protection mechanisms check for correct current amplitude and pulse width. If either
check shows limits are exceeded, the power stage is unlatched and the STATUS indicator
flashes to warn of a fault. The fault condition is removed by turning the main switch off for 10
seconds.
4.
Controls and connections
On the side of the unit:
IEC Power inlet socket to accept a range of standard connector leads.
120V/240V selector for nominal 115V/230V 50/60Hz AC single phase supply.
Power input fuse (2A anti-surge, 20mm*5mm)
Power ON/OFF switch
On the top of the unit:
Hz knob to adjust the pulse rate from zero to 10 pulse per second.
Pulse width knob to adjust the pulse width from 0.2ms to 3ms.
Green pushbutton to switch on the power to the injector.
Red pushbutton to switch off the power to the injector.
STATUS indicator to show that injector power is applied, (shows fault condition when
flashing).
PULSE light which turns on when voltage is applied to the injector.
