Operation

Engaging Trimmer Head

See
Figure
3-2. Bring trimmer head engage bar (A)
toward handlebar (B) then grip trimmer head engage bar
to handlebar. The cutting cords will rotate and will con-
tinue to rotate until the trimmer head engage bar is
released.
NOTE: Before using the trimmer for the first time or after
a new belt has been installed, engage the trimmer head
engage bar ten times and hold it for three seconds each
time. This is required to wear in the belt to ensure the
best grip for trimming.

Stopping the Cords from Spinning

WARNING
Personal injury. Before performing any maintenance procedure
or inspection, stop the engine and allow all parts to cool.
Disconnect spark plug wire and keep spark plug wire away from
spark plug. Failure to do so could result in serious injury.
WARNING
Personal injury. Never run the trimmer with only one cord
installed, cords of unequal length, or cords installed at other
than 180° apart. Doing so can result in personal injury,
equipment, or property damage.
NOTE: Never install more than two cords at a time. Add-
ing additional cords creates drag on the trimmer head,
robs the engine of power, and may cause wrapping.
Replace cutting cords when the cords become bro-
ken or frayed.
Replace cords one at a time and use the old cord
to mark the position the new cord is replacing.
Use needle nose pliers to pull out cords that break
off flush at the line plate.

Using the Mow-Ball

See
Figure
to rest lightly on the Mow-Ball or keep the Moll-Ball
raised slightly above the ground during trimming.
When mowing the Mow-Ball should glide on the
ground.
To achieve the best and smoothest cut, do not lift
up on the handlebar. Lifting the handlebar forces
weight down on the Mow-Ball. This uses more
energy, slows the cutting, and produces an unsat-
isfactory cut.
