Wire identification
Loud Tone – Wire found
No Tone – Wire not found
Broken wire check
Loud Tone on all stations – No
broken wires
No Tone on one station – Broken
power wire, bad connection, or
open solenoid for the one station
No Tone on all stations – Broken
common wire
Open solenoid test
Loud Tone – Test passed
No Tone – Test failed
Relay coil wire test
Loud Tone – Wires good
No Tone – Wires bad
Relay coil test
Loud Tone – Relay coil good
No Tone – Relay coil bad
WIRING TESTS INSTRUCTIONS
1. Connect one of the long leads to one of the common
terminals of the controller
2. Activate a station that does not have a station wire
identified
3. Using the other long lead, touch each of the remaining
unidentified station wires
4. Listen for tone
5. Once the wire is found, mark the wire with the appropriate
station identification
6. Proceed to the next station
1. Disconnect the common wire at the controller
2. Connect one of the long leads to one of the common
terminals of the controller and the other long lead to the
common wire going to the valves
3. Activate each station one by one
4. Listen for tone
OPEN VALVE SOLENOID TEST INSTRUCTIONS
1. Connect one of the long leads to one of the common
terminals of the controller
2. Activate the output of the station that controls the
solenoid.
3. Touch both terminals of the solenoid coil with the other
long lead
4. Listen for tone
RELAY COIL AND WIRE TEST INSTRUCTIONS
1. Disconnect the power wires from the relay coil terminals
2. Connect one long lead to each of the power wires
3. Activate the station for the relay to be tested
4. Listen for tone
1. Connect one of the power wires back to the appropriate
relay coil terminal
2. Connect one of the long leads to one of the common
terminals of the controller
3. Touch both relay coil terminals
4. Listen for tone
