PW4000 User Instructions
The following instructions provide the details of how to operate the PW4000. The PW4000 comes with
two leads. The leads are used for performing valve-finding functions on most standard operational 24
Volt AC solenoid valve irrigation systems.
Warning:
Even though the PW4000 is water-resistant, do not submerge the tester in water.
Caution:
The PW4000 must be used in a series electrical connection and only on 24 Volt AC standard irrigation
solenoid circuits. Use of the tester on parallel circuits will severely damage the tester and pose the possibility of
electrical shock. To protect sensitive components and for the best test results, continuity and resistance checks
should be performed before continuing with the valve finding test. Since all valves and installations are not identical,
test results may vary.
Note:
The results for each test may vary depending on the soil conditions, installation method of the
wire, and proper grounding of the controller and power supplies. The PW4000 will not function
on latching solenoids.

VALVE FINDING TEST INSTRUCTIONS
The purpose of the valve finding test is for locating operational irrigation
valves operated by 24 Volt AC solenoids. Since all valves and installations
are not identical, results may vary. Perform continuity and resistance checks
before continuing with the valve finding test for best results.
1. Turn off the water source to the valves.
2. Relieve the water pressure from the system if needed.
3. Disconnect the common wire going to the valves from the controller
common terminal.
4. Connect one lead to the controller common terminal.
5. Connect the second lead to the common wire going to the valves.
6. Activate the output of the valve to locate.
7. Locate the valve by the loud chattering of the solenoid.
Valve Finding Operational Requirements
Only one valve can be on the circuit being tested.
New valves should be electrically cycled to reduce initial internal
mechanical friction.
The water source for the value should be turned off during testing and
the water pressure should be released.
Maximum total circuit resistance: 75Ω at 24 Volts AC
Minimum voltage: 24 Volts AC at 75Ω
