WARNING
When working on air system components the following precautions should
be observed.
1. Stop engine when working under a vehicle. Always block the vehicle
wheels against a fore or aft roll. Bleeding off system pressure may cause
the vehicle to roll. Keep hands away from brake chamber push rods and
brake adjusters; they may apply as system pressure drops.
2. Never connect or disconnect a hose or line containing air pressure. It may
whip as air escapes. Never remove a component or a pipe plug unless you
are certain all system air pressure has been exhausted.
3. Never exceed recommended working air pressure and always wear safety
glasses when working with air pressure. Never look directly into component
ports or direct a pressurized air flow at anyone.
4. Never attempt to disassemble a component until you have read and
understood all recommended procedures. Some components contain
powerful springs and injury can result if not properly disassembled. Use
only proper tools and observe all precautions pertaining to the use of
those tools.

SERVICING THE PURE AIR DRYER
HEATER ASSEMBLY
NOTE: The Pure Air Dryer can remain installed on the vehicle while the
heater assembly is serviced.
1. Disconnect electrical leads from the heater. If not obvious, mark which
lead is positive and which lead is negative (ground).
2. Remove the cap screw retaining the heater cover. Remove the cover
and discard.
3. Remove the heater assembly by prying up on the plastic portion of the
assembly with a small screwdriver. Make sure the groove where the new
heater is to be installed is clean and void of any foreign objects.
4. Line up the new heater assembly over the cavity and tap the heater
portion of the assembly until the heater is approximately 1/32" below the
surface. This can best be accomplished by using a 1/4" or 1/2" thick bar
about three inches long. Lay the bar over the aluminum portion of the
heater and tap the bar until the aluminum portion is flush with the top
surface. Then turn the bar on edge and tap until the heater is at proper
depth (1/32").
5. Place the new cover over the heater and secure with the new cap screw.
Torque to 30-50 in. lbs.
6. Attach the wires to the leads which were disconnected, making sure that
the leads are connected properly. (Positive to Positive and Negative to
Negative).
OPERATIONAL CHECK
The heater themostat will close as the temperature decreases to 45 ± 8°F
and opens as temperature increases to 65 ± 10°F. For heaters with an LED,
the LED will remain illuminated while the heater is "OFF". The operation of
the heater, with or without the LED, can be checked as follows:
1. After installation of the heater is completed, apply ice or cold source to
the heater plastic body area to lower the temperature of the thermostat.
2A. For heaters with LED, the LED will turn off after a few minutes.
