Safety Regulations

• Installation, commissioning, modification and retrofitting
may only be performed by a qualified electrician.
• Disconnect the device/system from the power supply
before starting work. If installation or system errors occur,
mains voltage may be present at the control circuit in the
case of non-electrically isolated devices.
• When installing the equipment, please observe the
electrical engineering and professional trade association
safety regulations.
• Opening the housing or other manipulation voids any
warranty.
• In the case of improper use or any use other than for the
intended purpose, the device must no longer be used and
any warranty claims shall be void. Exposure to the following
(amongst other things) is not permitted: significant
mechanical strain on the device (e.g. if the device is
dropped); voltages, currents, temperatures, humidity levels
outside the specifications.
• Always check all safety functions in accordance with the
applicable regulations during initial commissioning of your
machine/system and observe the specified inspection
cycles for safety devices.
Attention
Observe standards
• The application-specific standards must be observed when
installing and operating the device.
• The device must be installed in accordance with
EN 60204-1 and IEC 60364-4-44.
Prior to installation/assembly/disassembly
Take the following safety precautions before starting
installation/assembly or disassembly work:
Disconnect the device/system from the power supply
1.
before starting work.
Secure the machine/system against being switched on
2.
again.
Confirm that no voltage is present.
3.
Earth the phases and short-circuit them.
4.
Cover and shield neighbouring live parts.
5.
The devices must be installed in a switch cabinet with a
6.
protection class of at least IP 54.
Limited contact protection
• Protection class according to EN 60529,
housings/terminals: IP 40/IP 20.
• Finger-proof according to EN 50274.

1
The MSI-SR-CM42R can be used as an expansion device for all
basic devices that are part of the safety devices of a machine and
used to protect persons, material and the machine.
2
The MSI-SR-CM42R is an expansion device with safe separation
between the control circuit / signalling current path and the enabling
current path. The device is housed in a 22.5 mm housing.
• The MSI-SR-CM42R has two relay groups, each with two enabling
and one signalling current path.
The signalling current path Y1/Y2 or Y3/Y4 must be wired to the
reset or return circuit of the basic device.
Basic function: Following the connection of control voltage to the
terminals B1/A2 or B2/A2, the enabling current paths 13/14 and
23/24 or 33/34 and 43/44 are closed. The signalling current path
Y1/Y2 or Y3/Y4 is interrupted. When disconnecting the control volt-
age, the enabling current paths are opened, the signalling current
path is closed.
Notes
The achieved stop category and performance level (PL) in
accordance with EN ISO 13849-1 or the SILCL in accordance with
DIN EN 62061 of the expansion device always depends on the
relevant data for the basic device (e.g. can the expansion device
achieve the maximum performance level (PL) of the basic
device?).
The enabling paths must be protected according to the technical
data specifications.
The device must be checked to ensure it is in perfect working
order before commissioning, after replacement of modules and/or
in the case of changes to an installation that has already
undergone acceptance.
External loads must be equipped with a protection circuit suitable
for the load (e.g. RC elements, varistors, suppressors ...) in order
to reduce electromagnetic interference and increase the service
life of the output switching elements.
The specified performance level will only be achieved if, depending
upon the prevailing device load (see EN ISO 13849-1, Table C.1)
and the application case, an average number of switching cycles
per year is not exceeded (see EN ISO 13849-1, C.4.2 and
Table K.1). Assuming that the B10d value for the maximum load is
400,000, this results in, for example, a maximum cycle number of
400,000 / 0.1 x 30 = 133,333 switching cycles/year.
The safety-related characteristics only apply when the relays are
switched at least once per year.
• The safety functions have not been checked by UL. The
certification process has been carried out in accordance with the
requirements for general applications as stipulated by UL508.
