-MAT HIGH PRESSURE MECHANICAL VICE
A.- Operation of the vice.
The
-MAT high pressure mechanical spindle unit is actioned by turning the handle clockwise.
Turn the handle until the movable jaw reaches the workpiece. When the jaw touches the workpiece,
continue turning the handle. A slight "treshold" pressure will be experienced as the clutch operates
and the high pressure clamping will take place as the handle is turned further. Once the movement
do not continue turning the handle as it could damage the vice.
To undo the workpiece move the handle anti-clockwise.
The vice has the pressure intensifier assembly.
The high pressure mechanical spindle is a compact assembly and if necessary, easy for exchanging.
B.- Cleaning.
Because of the industrial working conditions, on machines and in machining centres in which the
vices must work (swarf, pressure, coolants, etc.), full cleaning of the operational area of the vices
must be assessed as required by the workshop management.
To dismantle the parts for cleaning firstly undo the movable jaw for it, remove the screw on its rear
face. Now raise and lift the movable jaw forwards, it is loose. Take care not to mislay the half-ball
that is inside the movable jaw.
Loose the 4 screws of the end clamp(handle end). The spindle is loose and it can be taken out with
the spindle shoe. Now the vice is free for its cleaning. Oil the parts and carefully replace the parts
in the reverse order. Operate the vice "open and close" a few times to ensure it is free, before loading
with workpieces.
For a good maintenance, please use good quality coolants and antioxidizing agents.
The high pressure spindle does not need any maintenance but from time to time, once every 6 months
we should oil the clutch assembly. Without removing the spindle from the vice carefully screw in the
screw (Nº 0124) (on size 090 it is 202) into the spindle sleeve (Nº 1203). In this way we dismantle
the spindle sleeve by removing backwards. Then the torque rod (Nº 323) is shown, we must make
it free of swarf and sludge and oil it. After we can replace the spindle sleeve (Nº 1203).
C.- Maintenance of high pressure mechanical spindle.
If along the time the pressure decreases , it should be necessary its dismantling and clean it fully.
For it, follow the steps stated below :
1. Dismantle as shown in "B" above until the spindle is detached.
2. Diasssemble the spindle sleeve from the assembly, for it screw in the allen set screw (Nº 124)
(on size 090 it is 202) for removing the spindle sleeve (Nº 1203).
3. Remove the clamp. For it loose the safety ring (Nº 1013) and the torque rod taking care of removing
discs (Nº 1018) as well as the 4 springs (Nº 1015).
4. Holding the assembly by the cylinder (Nº 1211) unscrew screw (Nº 215) and cap (Nº 1216), in
this way the belleville springs (Nº 213) are shown and the threaded spindle (Nº 1215) and Secondary
plate (Nº 1235) will be loose.
5. Remove the 4 rollers (Nos. 236 & 237) with pincers and with a small sharp stroke take out the
primary plate (Nº 238) and the retaining plates (Nº 244). With the primary plate (Nº 238) the wedge
(Nº 241) and roller (Nº 209) will also come out.
6. Disassemble the clutch assembly introducing until the end the 3 dowel pins of cylinder (Nº
1211). Pulling out the torque rod (Nº 323) head remove the whole assembly.
7. For loosening all the parts, first remove the pressure plate (Nº 208) (pressure introduced at the
end of torque rod Nº 323) and after the safety ring (Nº 016). Now all the the clutch assembly parts
are free.
8. Clean all the parts and if there is any defective part replace it. Take care of oiling the inside of
the assembly.
