6.12. Buttonholes
TIP
To determine the correct stitch length, we recommend you sew a test button-
hole on a scrap of fabric.
Presser foot: .............................................................................. Buttonhole presser foot
Programme: ............................................................. Automatic buttonhole function
Stitch length: ..........................................................................................................0.25 to 1
Set the foot and needle (26) to their highest position. Replace the foot with
the buttonhole presser foot.
On the fabric, mark where you want to sew the buttonhole and its length.
Use a pencil or tailor's chalk.
6.12.1. Procedure
Use the programme selection dial (6) to select programme S to sew the left
bartack.
Pass the upper thread through the opening on the buttonhole presser foot
and pull both the upper and lower threads to the left-hand side. Lower the
foot and sew slowly until you have achieved the desired length for the side
bartack.
Raise the needle (26) to its highest position again and change to pro-
gramme T for the bottom bartack.
Sew a few stitches of the bottom bartack.
Raise the needle (26) to its highest position again and change to pro-
gramme U for the right-hand bartack.
Now sew the right-hand bartack with exactly the same length as the left-
hand side.
Raise the needle (26) to its highest position and select programme T again
for the top bartack.
Then sew a few stitches for the top bartack, just as you did for the bottom
bartack.
