URROUND
Your unit is capable of fully exploiting the capabilities of Surround-Sound.
Naturally, the prerequisite is the use of the five full frequency
loudspeakers, especially the center speaker, and the subwoofer.
Surround-Sound creates a "live" atmosphere similar to a cinema
auditorium, concert hall, etc.
Your unit can read three Surround-Sound formats:
Dolby Pro Logic

Dolby Digital

Dolby Pro Logic (Dolby Surround)

Dolby Pro Logic (formerly: Dolby Surround) is an early analogue
Surround-Sound format, which codes multi-channel sound into two
stereo channels. When played back, the sound is decoded into four
channels, and can be played over five loudspeakers, though an individual
bass channel is not supported. In contrast to the earlier Dolby Surround
format, Dolby Pro Logic gives a more natural acoustic pattern; the sound
is distributed more exactly to the loudspeakers.
Dolby Pro Logic is being increasingly replaced by the Dolby Digital 5.1
sound format. Sound media in the Pro Logic format are usually branded
with the trademark below and the inscription "Dolby Pro Logic".
Dolby Digital 5.1
With the Dolby-Digital sound format, the audio material is stored digitally.
In this case, up to five separate full frequency audio channels (front left
and right, middle, back left and right) as well as an effect or bass channel
(5.1) are stored separately. Sound media in the Dolby-Digital format are
branded with the trademark below.
As each channel is completely independent, a realistic acoustic field with
a 'three dimensional' auditory effect is created, through which the sound
has distance, movement, and a relative position in space.
Your unit can read, decode, and output this audio data in amplified form
to loudspeakers. On the other hand, the original signal can be lead to an
external decoder/amplifier via the digital output.
dts (Digital Theater Systems)
The abbreviation 'dts' hides a sound format which up to now has not been
very widespread. It can also store up to six (5.1) separate channels on a
single storage medium. Sound media in the dts format are branded with
the trademark on the left
Your unit can read this audio data and send it for decoding to the digital
outputs ("DIGITAL OUT"). It cannot however on its own reproduce the
sound from a dts storage medium.
