Sport Clip Assembly Instructions
Note: The nylon insert lock nuts and the tape pads are both designed for one-time use.
Note: The Sport Clip should be used only on outboards or sterndrives equipped with a trim tab or anode

Clean and dry the outboard/sterndrive cavitation plate. Rubbing alcohol can help to provide a clean surface.
on the bottom of the cavitation plate.
Determine the final position of the SE Sport Hydrofoil by resting it on the Top Clip of
the Sport Clip. The four holes in the Hydrofoil will align fully with the Top Clip when
installation is complete.
● ● ● ● ●
Move both pieces forward on the cavitation plate.
Stop just before both pieces begin to tilt OR when they meet the center gear housing.

● ● ● ● ●
Leave the Top Clip in place, but remove the Hydrofoil.
Position the Bottom Clip of the Sport Clip so that it matches the Top Clip.
If there is interference, or for any necessary minor adjustments, move the Bottom Clip to
the rear only—away from the boat.
Hold the Bottom Clip in place, but remove the Top Clip.

Mark the location of one red side grip on the cavitation plate.
Remove the trim tab/anode (commonly called torque tab) from the round cavity in

the bottom of the cavitation plate.
● ● ● ● ●
Position the stainless Tab Catch on the top of the trim tab/anode so the bolt will
intersect either with the large end hole (for large diameter bolts) or the smaller end hole
(for small diameter bolts). For smaller motors with a small tab cavity, the trim tab/anode
may not re-seat in its cavity without cutting off the larger round end hole of the catch.
Metal cutting shears will easily trim off the end hole of the Tab Catch.
● ● ● ● ●
Fully tighten the trim tab/anode, keeping the Tab Catch in a perfectly centered
position to the rear. The metal of the Tab Catch will bend easily and conform to the
shape of the trim tab/anode cavity. Rarely, some trim tab/anodes are very tight in the
round cavity and will require filling a small section of the trim tab/anode edge to
accommodate the ¾" wide Tab Catch.
● ● ● ● ●
Volvo SX sterndrives with the single (non-exhaust) cavitation plates may be fitted
with the Sport Clip using the enclosed Volvo Kit. Insert the 1" bolt into the cavitation
plate hole. Commonly, this hole has a plastic plug, easily removed. Direct the bolt
through the nylon spacer and the small hole of the Tab Catch. Secure with the lock
washer and lock nut.
● ● ● ● ●
With the Tab Catch protruding from the tightened trim tab/anode, bend the
protruding section up to the bottom of the cavitation plate and reposition the bottom clip,
aligning with your mark on the cavitation plate.
