valve(1) is not installed in place of the SR-2 pipe nipple.

INSTRUCTIONS
PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
When working on or around a vehicle, the following
general precautions should be observed at all times.
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the
parking brakes, and always block the wheels.
2. Stop the engine when working around the vehicle.
3. EXTREME CAUTION should be used to prevent
personal injury resulting from contact with moving,
rotating, leaking, heated, or electrically charged
components.
4. Make certain to drain the air pressure from all
reservoirs before beginning ANY work on the
vehicle.
5. Following the vehicle manufacturer's recommended
procedures, deactivate the electrical system in
manner that removes all electrical power from the
vehicle.
6. Never connect or disconnect a hose or line
containing pressure; it may whip. Never remove a
component or plug unless you are certain all system
pressure has been depleted.
7. Never exceed recommended pressures and always
wear safety glasses.
8. Do not attempt to install, remove, disassemble or
assemble a component until you have read and
thoroughly understand the recommended
procedures. Use only the proper tools and observe
all precautions pertaining to use of those tools.
9. Use only genuine Bendix replacement parts,
components, and kits. Replacement hardware,
tubing, hose, fittings, etc. should be of equivalent
size, type, and strength as original equipment and
be designed specifically for such applications and
systems.
10. Components with stripped threads or damaged parts
should be replaced rather than repaired. Repairs
requiring machining or welding should not be
attempted unless specifically approved and stated
by the vehicle or component manufacturer.
11. Prior to returning the vehicle to service, make
certain all components and systems are restored to
their proper operating condition.
LOCATION AND IDENTIFICATION
Verify the trailer has a Bendix SR-4 or SR-5 valve installed.
The trailer spring brake valve is mounted on the trailer reservoir.
See Figure 1 for identification.
1. Ensure that the valve has not previously been modified as
a part of the recall campaign. If previously modified, a
green tie wrap(5) used as modification identifier should be
attached to the valve in a conspicuous location to prevent
a repeated installation.
2. Verify the valve manufacture date falls within the date code
requirements of the recall campaign. The date code can be

found on the side of the valve adjacent to the cover on the SR-

code and piece number ring between the valve body and PR-
3 control valve . See Figure 1 for the location.
Valve Date Code Interpretation (See Figure 3.)
The date code is interpreted as follows. The first character
is numeric representing the shift of manufacture. (The shift
of manufacture is optional and may not be on all valves.)
Second is an alpha character (A through M skipping the
letter I) representing January through December for the
month of manufacture. The next 4 characters are numbers
representing the day of the month followed by the year (two
digits for each). The last character is an alpha character
representing the location of the manufacturing plant. For
example the date code 2K0300T indicates the product was
manufactured on the second shift of October 3, 2000 in
Texas. If the valve date code falls between March 1, 2000
(C0100T) and April 30, 2001 (D3001T) this kit must be
installed.
