opening.
8.1 - Positioning
Fig. 2 – How to fit properly the LIFT onto the rope:
a) turn and lock the tooth into the open position taking the
safety device to the outside of the rope clamp,
b) insert the LIFT onto the rope checking that it lies in the
direction marked on the equipment,
c) release the tooth, pressing it towards the rope,
d) make sure the safety device is positioned on the inside
of the LIFT and prevents the tooth from fully opening.
In conditions of absolute safety, make sure the LIFT slides
in the right direction (upwards) and locks in the other
direction (downwards) before using it.
8.2 – Progression (EN 567)
Example of correct progression: the loaded rope clamp
must go parallel with the rope (fig. 3A). If this does not
happen, insert a connector into the upper opening (fig. 3B)
or else insert the rope into the connector connecting the
rope clamp to the harness (fig. 3C).
Fig. 4 – Examples of incorrect and dangerous progression:
the rope clamp can slip down towards the bottom.
Fig. 5 – Example of correct horizontal progression
(traverses).
Fig. 6 – Example of incorrect and dangerous horizontal
progression.
Fig. 7 – The "FOOT FUTURA", a foot rope clamp used
together with the LIFT or with a ventral rope clamp, helps
to keep the user's body upright facilitating ascent. Warning:
"FOOT FUTURA" is not a personal protective equipment
(PPE) and must therefore never be used on its own!
Warning, rope clamps are not fall-arrester devices:
- always keep the rope clamp above the point where it is
hooked to the harness (fig. 8A),
- never go beyond the belay point with the rope clamp
underneath the knot! (fig. 8B)
Warning:
- never push the rope clamp up against the knot: it could be
very difficult to release it, if not impossible (fig. 9),
- use your thumb to work the toothed cam to make the
rope clamp slide downwards (fig. 15) to slide the rope
clamp downwards, move with the thumb the toothed cam
(fig.10) do not touch the tooth's safety device (fig. 11):
risk of accidental opening!
8.3 – Procedure for using the working line ascender
(EN 12841)
Fig. 12 – Correctly positioned (read point 8.1).
Warning:
- before putting the device into position on the working line
check that:
- the anchoring points, both of the working line and
the safety rope, are above the user and conform to
standard EN 795,
- connectors are fitted with a gate locking device and
conform to standard EN 362,
- the system used to connect the LIFT to the harness is
no more than 1 meter long,
- furthermore, after positioning the device on the working
line in absolute safety, make sure:
