INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (cont'd)
5. Next, install your hoses and fill your cooling system. Check your OEM
specification for cooling additions that may be required. Failure to add the proper
cooling additives could damage your engine. (See Warranty Information)
6. When installing your fan or fan clutch, look for bent blades, cracked blades
and/or loose rivets. If you find any of these problems, fan blade replacement is
recommended. A bad fan clutch will damage your water pump. Make sure the
fan clutch is checked for wobble.
7. Start the engine and run until normal operating temperature is obtained. Check
for leaks, vibrations and/or excessive noise.
INSTALLATION NOTES
A. Always compare the old water pump to the new water pump to insure they are
the same, especially the impeller standout.
B. Always inspect the drive gear of the water pump replaced. Any noticeable wear
on the old gear indicates an accessory drive with too much backlash. Excessive
backlash will cause premature water pump gear wear and failure. (See Warranty
Information)
C. Always insure the water pump mounting surface is clean prior to installing
a new water pump.
D. Always torque water pump mounting bolts to OEM manufacturer's
specifications.
E. Always insure that drive pulleys run straight and that they have no wobble.
F. Always insure that the fan belts have at least 1/2" to 3/4" deflection.
G. Always replace damaged fans (blades, pilot holes and/or elongated
mounting holes).
H. Always torque fan mounting bolts to OEM manufacturer's specifications and
insure the fan mount studs (bolts) are Grade 5 or better.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
1) Water pump bearing failure due to excessive belt tension is not
warrantable. Refer to engine manufacturer's belt tension recommendations.
2) Premature water pump drive gear wear or failure due to excessive gear
backlash is not warrantable.
3) Continued use of coolant treatment additives containing silicate without
periodic flushing of the cooling system, may result in silicate buildup which can
cause premature failure of the water pump seal. Water pumps submitted for
warranty with seal failures caused by silicate buildup may be denied. To
prevent silicate buildup and premature water pump seal failure, follow these
procedures:
a) Always flush cooling system when replacing the water pump.
b) Refill with the proper mixture of antifreeze and water as directed by
the OEM manufacturer's specifications.
c) Use a coolant treatment additive which reduces silicate buildup or
does not contain silicate.
