mounting surface is clear of wire or other obstructions
that may be damaged while drilling.
4. Ensure that the breakaway switch cable does not drag and that
no strain or restrictions are present.
Caution: Always connect the breakaway switch cable
directly to the trailer hitch. Do not attach the breakaway
switch cable to the trailer safety chains, safety chain
mounting hooks, ball mount or to the trailer hitch ball.
WIRING
Note: Refer to the attached wiring diagram for additional
information.
1. Connect one of the black wires to the breakaway battery's
positive (+) terminal.
2. Splice the second black wire into the wire leading to the trailer
brakes (this wire should test for 12v (+) when the vehicle brakes
are applied).
3. Confirm correct operation by removing the plunger from the
breakaway switch and attempting to move the trailer.
Warning: Disconnect the trailer connector from the tow
vehicle prior to testing the breakaway system. Failure to
do so can result in severe damage to the tow vehicle's
electric brake control.
Warning: Breakaway systems are intended for use as a
safety device and should not be used as a parking
brake. Utilizing a breakaway system in such a manner
could severely discharge the battery or overheat the
trailer brakes causing potential failure.
