Slide/Slide Rail - Guided Magnetic Linear Encoder System
Installation
Installation order (overview)
1. Install the slide rail
2. Install the magnetic tape and cover strip (if necessary)
3. Install the sensor head in the slide
4. Position the slide on the slide rail
NOTICE!
Base
An uneven base will cause the slide to jam. The base for
the slide rail must be absolutely flat and clean. Install the
slide rail straight and without any deflection.
Installing the slide rail
The slide rails can be fastened in 2 ways:
–
Using the installation holes in the bottom of the slide
rail,
–
Using the BML-Z0008 lugs (accessory) that engage in
the groove on the side.
Lining up several slide rails
1. Place the slide rails with the front ends together.
2. Position the BML-Z0010 installation aid (accessory)
over the joint and align and fasten both slide rails.
Fastening the magnetic tape
1. Thoroughly clean (e.g. with rubbing alcohol) the interior
of the slide rail to remove oil, grease, dust, etc. and let
it dry completely.
2. On a magnetic tape with reference position, identify the
front and rear end: The reference point is marked and
is on the right side of the magnetic tape in its own
track.

3. Remove a small section of the adhesive protective film
on the rear end of the magnetic tape.
4. Place the magnetic tape in the center of the slide rail so
that the rear end of the magnetic tape is on the rear
edge of the slide rail and then align the magnetic tape.
5. Insert the installation aid (BML-Z0010 accessory) in the
slide rail and position at the rear end of the magnetic
tape, i.e. at the beginning of the measurement track.
6. Remove another section of the adhesive protective film.
7. Move the installation aid forward a bit while aligning the
magnetic tape parallel to the slide rail.
8. Lightly press the magnetic tape down by hand behind
the installation aid.
Tools and magnetic materials
Pressing down on the magnetic tape with hard tools or
working with magnetic materials can damage the
magnetic surface.
► Only use your hand or a soft tool.
► Do not use any magnetic materials.
9. Repeat steps 6 to 8 until the entire magnetic tape is
affixed.
Fastening the BML-S1F1-... sensor head in the
BML-C02 slide (see Fig. below)
1. Place the sensor head in the slide so that the cable is
on the opposite side of the ball head.
2. Slightly tighten the sensor head using the supplied
screws.
3. Insert the slide in the correct position in the rail.
4. Slide the supplied clearance gauge from the front
under the slide and place it on the magnetic tape.
5. From the top, slightly press the sensor head on the
clearance gauge and tighten the mounting screws
(torque for M4×20-8.8 cylinder screw max 2.3 Nm acc.
to DIN 912). The correct distance between the sensor
head and magnetic tape is now set.
Securing the screws
Secure the screws using screw lock lacquer.
6. Pull the clearance gauge out and check whether the
slide smoothly glides over the entire rail.
