Filter Assembly:
1) Push the three suction cup holders on the disposable fi lter
housing base notches.
2) Push the drain hose on the adapter and push the adapter in
the pump outlet end.
3) Insert the butterfl y valve in the open end of the drain hose.
4) If applicable, insert the second hose section of the drain
hose on the other end of the butterfl y valve.
5) Turn the arrow on the knob of the butterfl y valve in the
direction of the outlet side to open the butterfl y valve all
the way.
Filter Installation in the Aquarium or in
the Filtering Basin:
There are various options of how to install the fi lter in the
aquarium or in the fi ltering basin (see diagrams). Make sure
no bubbles are caught in the disposable fi lter housing or in the
pump as a result of the installation arrangement. Determine
where the drain hose is to run and at which point the butterfl y
valve is to be installed in the drain hose (at the end of the drain
hose or once cut, in between the two cut sections of the drain
hose). The drain should run across the water surface so that
the fl ow can readily be visually checked and so that samples
can easily be taken.

The air needs to escape from the fi lter housing and the pump
to ensure that the fi lter material is completely integrated in the
fi ltration process and that the pump is working properly.
Aquaria or fi ltering basins with a high water level:
1) Slowly immerse the fi lter housing, still without the pump,
in the place where it is to be installed. Hold it vertically and
upside down; keep the drain outlet pointing downwards
(see fl ow direction arrow on the housing). Do not exert any
pressure rather let the housing gradually fi ll up with water
until it is saturated and sinks to the bottom.
2) Now turn around the cartridge underwater and, keeping
underwater, push the prepared pump on the drain outlet of
the housing as far as it will go.

3) Now fi t the fi lter housing at the designated place by fi rmly
pushing the suction cups to the pane. Make sure any algae
or other deposits are removed prior to fi tting. Continue
with 4).
Push the pump inlet end on the drain of the disposable fi lter
housing as far as it will go. Turn the drain outlet of the pump
in the desired direction.
Attention: This is not a self-priming pump so it also has to be
completely submerged.
Filtering basins with a low water level: the water level has to
be at least 15 cm / 6 inch.
1) Slowly immerse the fi lter housing upside down into the
water so that the drain outlet points downwards (see fl ow
direction arrow on the housing). Do not exert any pressure
rather let the housing gradually fi ll up with water until it is
saturated.
2) Once the fi lter housing has reached the bottom of the
fi ltering basin, tilt it slowly to the side so that the remainder
of the fi lter housing also will slowly fi ll with water and so
that the air can escape completely.
3) Now fi t the fi lter housing at the designated place by fi rmly
pushing the suction cups to the bottom pane of the fi ltering
basin. Push the prepared pump on the drain outlet of the
housing as far as it will go.
4) First run the drain hose in a manner which ensures that the
fi rst 2 litres of water can drain into an appropriate container
as some fi ne dust is fl ushed out of the adsorber fi rst.
5) Now connect the cable set end of the 12 V pump to the
plug-in power supply unit and plug it into a socket outlet.
The pump will start to pump water through the drain hose.
Collect approx. 2 litres of water in a separate container.
6) Now fi t the drain hose in its fi nal location and secure it from
slipping off, if needed.
7) Adjust the butterfl y valve in such a manner that about
1 percent of the aquarium volume per hour will fl ow through
the fi lter. Use the following table to do so:

The fl ow rate may be set lower or higher yet 6 l/h (1.58 gal./h)
should not be exceeded to ensure best results (cf. Notes on
Best Operation).
Exception: Use of ELIMI-CONTROL CARBON to remove
medicinal substances. The butterfl y valve can be opened all the
way in this instance. It takes about 36 - 48 hours to completely
remove the medicinal substances from a 600 l (160 gal.)
aquarium. It takes less time accordingly with smaller aquaria.
You should then replace the disposable fi lter and the fl ow rate
should be reduced to the values mentioned above.
