45° FLARING AND SWAGING KIT
FLARING:
This tool can flare ACR copper, brass, or aluminum tubing. The following instructions show how to
operate the flaring tool to produce tubing with a 45 degree flare.
NOTE: Before operation, ensure that the tubing is cut off squarely and that all burrs or torn edges are
removed.
1 Insert tubing into the appropriate sized die, slightly above 1/32".
2 Tighten the wing nut nearest to the tube first, followed by the remaining wing nut. Ensure that the
wing nuts are securely tightened to stop the tube from slipping.
3 Install the yoke over the tube. Once in position turn the yoke clockwise to hold it in place. Place
your thumb and forefinger on the yoke to hold it in place as seen in Figure 2.
4 Slowly turn the T-handle until the tubing is flared. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Tighten the yoke with
normal hand strength until you feel resistance.
SWAGING:
5 Place tubing in tool as 'Point 1' except allow tubing to protrude above the face of the tool
approximately 1/8" more than the diameter of the tube you are swaging (i.e. on 1/2" O.D. tubing,
tubing should protrude 5/8" above face of bar.)
6 Select the proper size swaging spreader and screw it on to the yoke screw. Place a drop of oil on
the spreader.
NOTE: that the small spreader (see A, Fig. I) takes care of 3 sizes, 3/16", 1/4" and 3/8" O.D. tubing.
There is separate spreader for every other size.
7 Slip the yoke over the bar and turn in a clockwise direction so that it hooks on the bar.
8 Screw the spreader into the tube until it gets to the point where the chamfer on the upper shoulder
on the spreader is bearing on the tube.
9 Hold the yoke so it will not twist off the bar and unscrew the spreader from the tube. The result will
be a clean, accurate swage.
