Important note
The products described here were developed to perform safety-oriented functions as
part of an overall installation or machine. A complete safety-oriented system gener-
ally features sensors, evaluation units, signaling units, and reliable shutdown con-
cepts. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure that a system or machine
is functioning properly as a whole. Siemens AG, its regional offices, and associated
companies (hereinafter referred to as "Siemens") cannot guarantee all the properties
of a whole plant system or machine that has not been designed by Siemens.
Nor can Siemens assume liability for recommendations that appear or are implied in
the following description. No new guarantee, warranty, or liability claims beyond the
scope of the Siemens general terms of supply are to be derived or inferred from the
following description.
Note: Further information is provided on the attached CD.
Note:
A qualified person is a person who is familiar with assembling, installing, commis-
sioning, and operating the product and who has the relevant qualifications, such
as:
• Training or instruction/authorization in operating and maintaining devices and
systems according to the safety regulations for electrical circuits and devices.
• Training/instruction in the proper care and use of safety equipment in accor-
dance with established safety procedures
• First aid training
Applications
The SENTRON PAC4200 is a Power Monitoring Device for displaying relevant system
parameters in low-voltage power distribution. It is capable of single-phase, two-phase
or three-phase measurement and can be used in two-wire, three-wire, four-wire, TN,
TT and IT systems.
Features: • More than 300 monitoring, diagnostics, and service functions, harmonics
up to the 31st harmonic, THD of the voltage and of the current, time stamping of
extreme values, • sliding window demand values, • 10 energy meters for active
energy, reactive energy and apparent energy, high and low tariffs, • parameterizable
load profile recording, • integrated Ethernet interface, • function as serial gateway,
• 2 multi-functional digital inputs, • 2 multi-functional digital outputs, • 2slots for
optional expansion modules, 1 slot of which can be used for communication, e.g.
PAC PROFIBUS DP, • universal counter, • operating hours counter, • parameterizable
signaling system, recording of events with a time stamp, • comprehensive limit value
monitoring, • 4 user-friendly measured value displays, • battery-backed clock,
• battery-backed long-term memory, • password protection.
Tools required for installation
You require the following tools for installation:
• Cutting tool for the panel cutout
• PZ2 cal. screwdriver ISO 6789
• Crimping tool in accordance with EN 60947-1

DANGER
!
Risk of electric shock or burns
Will cause death, serious injury or considerable property damage.
Wear the prescribed protective clothing. Observe the general equipment regula-
tions and safety regulations for working with high-voltage installations (e.g.
DIN VDE, NFPA 70E) as well as national or international regulations. Only appro-
priately qualified personnel may carry out installation and maintenance work on
this equipment.
Check the device for any damage. Do not install or operate a damaged device.
Before performing any installation, maintenance or assembly work deenergize
both the supply voltage and the measuring voltage on the device and isolate the
system in which PAC4200 is installed from the supply.
Before connecting the device, you must ensure that the local power supply condi-
tions agree with the specifications on the rating plate.
Supply voltage: Secure the supply voltage with a listed fuse 0.6 A, type C. If a
fusible link is used, a suitable listed fuse holder has to be used.
Voltage measuring inputs: In the case of a direct connection and transformer
connection, the device has to be safeguarded with a listed 10 A backup fuse or
a listed 10 A miniature circuit breaker. When using voltage transformers, their sec-
ondary connections must never be short-circuited!
Circuit breaker: A suitable isolating device shall be connected upstream in order
to permit disconnection of the device from the power supply. The circuit breaker
must be mounted close to the device, be easily accessible to the user and marked
as a circuit breaker for the device.
Current measuring inputs: Electric shock and danger of arcing in the case of
open transformer circuits. It is only possible to measure the current via a trans-
ducer connection. The circuits must NOT be protected with a fuse here! Never
open the secondary circuit of the current transformers under load. Short-circuit the
secondary current terminals of the current transformer before removing the
device. The safety information for the current transformers used must be followed!
Mounting
vertical in fixed panels inside an enclosed dry room.
Mounting position: Vertical, Fig. 1.
Mount expansion modules that are to operated with SENTRON PAC4200 after
installing and before commissioning the PAC4200.
Observe the ESD guidelines: Ensure safe isolation from supply. Discharge any
static from your body.
Insert battery: For first start-up, use the battery supplied with the device.
WARNING
!
Combustion or explosion of the battery! Can cause death, serious injury
or considerable property damage.
The battery must meet the safety requirements of UL1642, to avoid combusion or
explosion.
Use only batteries tested in accordance with UL1642.
Observe the polarity. The polarity is indicated on the battery compartment. The bat-
tery compartment has the same shape as the battery. Insert the battery into the bat-
tery compartment, Fig. 6.
Mounting the device: 1) Cut a hole in the panel measuring
2
92.0+0.8 x 92.0+0.8 mm
, Fig. 2. 2) Slide the device into the cutout from the outside,
Fig. 7. 3) Go to the inside of the switching panel. Carry out all other installation steps
from there. 4) Mount the device onto the panel using the brackets provided. a) Hang
the brackets onto the left and right sides of the housing, Fig. 8. b) Tighten the locking
hooks. To do so, place your index finger and middle finger on the support arms and
engage the locking hook with your thumb, see Fig. 9. 5) Tighten the 4 screws evenly
in the brackets, tightening torque 0.3 Nm, Fig. 10. 6) An optional expansion module
can be connected. You can find the installation instructions in the operating instruc-
tions of the expansion module.
Preparing Ethernet: 1) Refer to the technical data about cable quality and design of
the RJ45 connector. 2) Ground the shielding of the Ethernet cable at both ends of the
cable, Fig. 11. To do this, expose the foil shield of the Ethernet cable. Connect the
exposed shield to a suitable grounding point on the control cabinet, preferably a
shielding bus. 3) Ensure strain relief for the RJ45 connector. Secure the Ethernet
cable to the panel, Fig. 12.
