OPERATION

On/Off and Volume Control [On/Off /Vol] (7)

Switch on the radio by turning the rotary volume selector (7) clockwise. To
adjust a comfortable volume level, deactivate the squelch temporarily (see
section Squelch) and set the volume level.

Keylock [A/F] (2)

Activate/deactivate the keylock function by pressing the mode key [A/F] (2)
until the keylock symbol appears/disappears in the LCD.
With activated keylock, only the transmission key [PTT] can be operated. All
other keys are deactivated.

Squelch [SQ] (1)

The typical, permanent frequency noise on a channel that is present when no
carrier is present, can be suppressed with the squelch function.
The radio is equipped with an automatic squelch (AQ) and a manual squelch
(SQ).
A long press of the squelch key [SQ] (1), switches between the manual
squelch SQ and the automatic squelch AQ. Only the automatic squelch mode
is indicated in the LCD. In active AQ mode, the letters "AQ" are displayed.
Both squelch modes can be adjusted. After switching the squelch mode, the
function remains for a few seconds in set-mode, the current value is indicated
in the display. To access the set-mode in the current squelch mode, press the
key shortly.
In set-mode, the value can be changed with the channel selector keys of the
microphone or the radio, the value can be changed. For the SQ mode, you
can select the values 1-34 or OFF; the AQ mode can be set in the range 1-9.
Your selection is automatically confirmed by leaving the set-mode. This hap-
pens automatically after 5 seconds or can be done by pressing the transmis-
sion key [PTT].
For the automatic squelch (AQ), we recommend the preset, middle-value.
To set the best, current squelch level, lower the value until you hear the
frequency noise. Then, increase the value until the squelch filters the noise.
In some cases, the squelch opens temporarily and the frequency noise is
audible. In this case, increase the squelch by one level or more.
If the squelch level is too high, weaker signals are filtered and they cannot be
heard in the speaker.
