Note: The Soldering Iron Tip may emit smoke for a short while on first use. This is normal and is
the protective coating burning off the element. It is advisable to do this in a well-ventilated area
before regular use.
Using the soldering iron
1. Clean the Tip (11) and the workpiece before soldering (see 'Cleaning' section)
2. Place the soldering iron into the Soldering Iron Stand (5). DO NOT allow the heating element or
soldering tip to rest on any surface that may be damaged by heat
3. Plug the solder station into the mains power supply
4. Switch the solder station 'ON' , as instructed in the 'Switching ON and OFF' section. The display
on the station will illuminate when switched 'ON'
5. Select the required temperature unit (Centigrade or Fahrenheit) by pressing the Unit Selection
Button (1)
6. Set the required Tip temperature by switching the Temperature Reading/Setting Switch (13) to
the 'Set' position and adjusting using the Temperature Control Dial (2).
I. Clockwise = increase temperature
II. Anticlockwise = decrease temperature
The set temperature will be indicated on the digital display
7. To view the current Tip temperature on the digital display, set the Temperature Reading/Setting
Switch (13) to the 'Read' position
Note: The temperature displayed will fluctuate slightly once the iron has heated, due to heat
loss and reheating while using
Note: When soldering electronic components, refer to the component manufacturer's
instructions with regards to max soldering temperature.
8. Hold the Soldering Iron Tip against the wire or component to be soldered. Once hot, add solder
to the joint, then remove soldering iron
9. Switch the solder station 'OFF' when not in use, refer to 'Switching ON and OFF' section.

Maintenance
WARNING: ALWAYS disconnect the tool from the power supply, before cleaning or carrying
out maintenance.
General inspection
• Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight
• Inspect the supply cord of the appliance, prior to each use, for damage or wear. Repairs should
be carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies to extension
cords used with this appliance
Cleaning
• Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly, and
shorten the device's service life. Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth. If
available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation holes (where applicable)
• Clean the tip before and after use with a suitable flux and using the Tip Cleaning Sponge (6)
Replacing the tip
WARNING: ALWAYS disconnect from the power supply, and allow to fully cool, before
attempting to adjust or replace any part.
• Loosen the Tip Cover Screw (10) and remove the cover (Fig. III)
• Remove the old Tip (11) from the iron
• Reassemble the iron with a new tip (Fig. IV)
