TO MARK AN EVENT ON THE ECG
Press the green flag option button. The FR3 will give a tone, and a flag marker icon will briefly appear on
the screen next to the lead vector icon. The ECG recording stored on the FR3 data card will include the
marker.
FOLLOW ALL PROMPTS FROM THE FR3
The FR3 prompts the responder to check the patient if the heart rate is less than 30 BPM or if the heart
rhythm may benefit from a defibrillation shock.
Check the patient if:
• indicated by the observed ECG or heart rate display
• the patient becomes unresponsive or stops breathing
• the FR3 prompts IF NEEDED, ATTACH DEFIBRILLATION PADS
If appropriate, disconnect the 3-Lead Cable from and connect the defibrillator pads to the FR3. Be
careful not to overlap the pads and electrodes. Correct placement is shown in Figure 4. If necessary,
remove or relocate the electrodes.
ECG DATA REVIEW
To record ECG data during use of the 3-Lead Cable, make sure that an FR3 data card is installed in the
FR3. You can review the recorded tracing, including any markers, using one of the HeartStart Event
Review data management software products on a personal computer. The data recorded is from the
lead vector selected during use.
AFTER A USE
1. Remove the electrodes from the patient and discard appropriately.
2. Disconnect the 3-Lead Cable from the FR3.
IMPORTANT: Do not leave the 3-Lead Cable connected to the FR3 after a use. Although leaving
the 3-Lead Cable connected will not disable the FR3, it will cause the FR3 to give alert chirps at its
next periodic self-test. If this occurs, disconnect the 3-Lead Cable and press the green On/Off
button twice.
3. Clean the 3-Lead Cable as directed in the FR3 Instructions for Administrators.
4. Coil the unplugged 3-Lead Cable carefully and place it in its storage pouch.
5. Preconnect a set of defibrillation pads to the FR3 so it will be ready for use in an emergency.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If the 3-Lead Cable is properly connected to the FR3 and the ECG electrodes are attached to the
patient, but the FR3 prompts you to ATTACH LEADS, there may be a problem with ECG electrodes or
the 3-Lead Cable. First, check the electrodes. Then confirm all connections and 3-Lead Cable integrity.
Finally, test the 3-Lead Cable as follows:
1. Make sure the 3-Lead Cable is connected firmly to the FR3 and that the FR3 is turned on.
2. Disconnect the lead wires from the ECG electrodes and attach them to an ECG simulator.
3. If the FR3 displays the simulator ECG, the 3-Lead Cable is working. Replace the ECG electrodes. If
the FR3 continues to prompt to attach leads, discard the 3-Lead Cable appropriately and replace it.
