Installation Instructions:
Electrical System for Towing Hitch
Install electrical kit
1. Disconnect battery.
2. If necessary, remove the following covers and trims:
In boot
•
Boot floor cover
-
Boot sill cover
-
Right side trim
-
3. Remove the 40mm hole cover on the vehicle to the immediate left of centre in the tail end
panel (Fig. 1/5).
4. Run the end of the socket from the wiring harness through the cable bushing from the inside
to the socket holder on the trailer (Fig. 1/4).
5. Insert the rubber grommet into the cable bushing (Fig. 1/5).
Fit socket
6. Press the contact insert into the socket housing and slide the rubber seal onto the socket.
7. Securely screw the socket onto the socket holder (Fig. 1/4) with the enclosed screws, max.
tightening torque 2.0 Nm, shorten screws if necessary.
8. Clip the cable holder from the wiring harness onto the socket holder (Fig. 1/4).
Connect trailer connection unit
Note
If the equipment rack 8K0 907 297 (Fig. 1/3) for the trailer connection unit is not fitted in the
vehicle, it must be ordered from VW Kassel.
9. Insert the trailer connection unit into the top of the equipment rack (Fig. 1/3) at the rear right of
the vehicle.
10. Plug the 16-pin socket housing for the wiring harness into the corresponding slot in the trailer
connection unit (Fig. 1/2) and lock into place.
11. Insert the vehicle-side 12-pin connector housing (in the foam tube below the earth connection,
Fig. 1/2) into the space provided on the trailer hitch (Fig. 1/3) and snap into place.
12. Connect the brown cables with ring eyelet to the earth point on the vehicle (Fig. 1/1).
13. The "charge wire" and "earth for charge wire" functions can be retrofitted using the 3-pin
connector for the continuous positive prefitting.
