Perform the following steps when installing
the Vicair Multifunctional O2 back
These steps correspond to the installation
images 1 – 4 on the Quick Installation Guide:
Check cushion size. Width (X) of the back
support cushion, back shell and wheelchair
seat should match. Height (Y) of the back
support cushion should match the height
of the back shell.
Remove protective backing tape from
selfadhesive hook strips attached to the
cushion cover.
Place the cushion in the back shell and push
it firmly into position. Make sure the cushion
label faces down.
Check together with therapist or technical
advisor if the back support cushion fits the
dimensions of your body. Add or remove
SmartCells if necessary.
Sit in the wheelchair for a few minutes, to
allow the back support cushion to adapt to
your body shape.
Checking for "bottoming out"
Image 5 - Quick Installation Guide
Warning! Your back and spine should not touch
the bottom/back part of the cushion or the sides
of the shell. Checking for "bottoming out" should
be done during first use and after adjustments
to the cushion filling.
Warning! Vicair B.V. recommends to adjust the
filling grade under the direct supervision of your
therapist or technical advisor.
Check for bottoming out, after sitting with
your back against the back support cushion
for approximately 5 minutes.
Lean slightly forward, let your therapist or
technical advisor slide a hand between your
back and the cushion, then lean back again.
Ask your therapist or technical advisor to
check if your back is supported by at least
2,5 cm / 1" of SmartCells.
Do not use the cushion if bottoming out
occurs. In most cases, adjusting the filling
grade of the compartments will solve the
problem.
Stability
Warning! Using the Vicair Multifunctional
O2 back may affect the static and dynamic
behaviour of the wheelchair. Check and test the
balance and stability of the wheelchair with the
aid of your therapist or technical advisor.
USE
Checking for redness of the skin
Image 6 - Quick Installation Guide
Warning! Check your skin regularly for redness,
especially during the first few days. If redness
occurs and does not disappear after 15 minutes,
consult your therapist or technical advisor.
Adjusting the filling grade
Warning! Vicair B.V. recommends to adjust the
filling grade under the direct supervision of your
therapist or technical advisor.
A Vicair wheelchair back support cushion has its
own unique filling grade, depending on size and
model and automatically manages small
obliquities. However – if necessary to support
more extreme asymmetry – the filling grade can
be adjusted by removing or adding SmartCells
from/to the various compartments. You can find
the default filling grade on the label attached to
the cushion.
