b. Select CD-RW from the Device Manager list. Verify that there is a
CD-RW device and that no conflicts exist. The device status will
indicate that the device is working properly.
6. Click OK.
7. Restart the computer.
If the device icon is still not present, check cable connections, device jumper
settings, and resolve any existing conflicts.
The CD cannot be read.
Take the following actions:
1. The CD might be dirty; clean it as described in "Handling and caring for a
CD" on page 1-11.
The CD might be defective; try another CD.

The CD is not ISO-9660- or High Sierra Group-compatible. Check with

your place of purchase.
There is no sound from the CD.
Take the following actions:
1. Check that you are using an audio CD and not a data CD.
2. Adjust the volume control on the drive. See "Front view of the drive" on
page 1-4 to locate the volume control if you have connected headphones to
the front of the drive.
3. Adjust the sound-adapter volume control. See the documentation that
comes with your sound adapter and audio-CD player program.
4. Turn off the computer, unplug the cables from the electrical outlets for your
computer and all attached devices, and remove the computer cover. Check
that the audio-signal cable connects the 12x8x32x CD-RW drive to the
sound adapter.
Your screen displays an error message.
Take the following actions for two common error messages.
v CDR-101
– This message displays when you try to access the CD-RW drive before
the drive is ready. The busy indicator lights when you attempt to access
the drive after loading a CD into the CD tray. Wait until the busy
indicator goes off before attempting to read the drive.
v CDR-103
– The CD in the CD-RW drive is not a High Sierra Group- or ISO
9660-compatible format. The CD-RW drive does not support this format.
