Leviton Critical Care / Life Support Policy
Leviton does not recommend the use of any of these products in any of the
following situations:
• Life support applications in which a malfunction or failure of the Leviton product can be
reasonably expected to cause failure of the life support device, or significantly affect
its safety or effectiveness.
• Direct patient care.
It is against Leviton policy to sell its products for use in such applications unless it receives
in writing assurances satisfactory to Leviton that:
• The risks of injury or damage have been minimized.
• The customer assumes all such risks.
• The liability of Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc. is adequately protected under
all circumstances.
The term "life-support device" includes but is not limited to anesthesia ventilators,
arrhythmia detectors and alarms, auto-transfusion devices, blood pumps, defibrillators,
hemodialysis systems, infusion pumps, neonatal oxygen analyzers, neonatal ventilator
incubators, nerve stimulators (whether used for anesthesia, pain relief, or other purposes),
pacemakers, peritoneal dialysis systems, ventilators (for adults or infants), and any other
device designated as "critical" by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
