1. Remove pad from strap
2. Cut along indentations
3. Place back on strap
Applying the brace for use:
Note: Instructions show medial hinged brace
1. Sit patient on edge of chair, leg fully extended
2. Loosen the tibia strap (Picture 7)
3. Position brace on leg with center of hinge in line with top of kneecap
Attach the brace straps in the following sequence.
4. Mid Strap (Picture 5)
a. Wrap strap around back of leg with strap pad on top of calf
muscle
b. Thread through strap ring and secure
c. Straps should be tight, without restricting circulation or
causing cramping
5. Calf Strap (Picture 6)
a. Wrap strap around calf
b. Thread through the strap ring and secure
c. Do not over tighten
6. Tibia Strap (Picture 7)
a. Tighten Tibia strap to be snug, yet comfortable
b. Do not pull the shell out of position
c. The strap does not need adjustment each time the brace is
applied
7. Thigh Strap (Picture 8)
a. Wrap strap around back of thigh - angle slightly down
b. Thread through the strap ring and secure
c. During use, the thigh strap may need to be re-tightened
8. The Dynamic Force Strap™ (DFS) (Picture 9)
a. Wrap strap around the back of leg
b. Thread through D-ring ring on the thigh shell
c. Bend braced knee to an 80-degree angle
d. Hold thigh shell or hinge to prevent brace from moving
e. Tighten DFS. The DFS should be snug
f.
Do not over tighten DFS, as this pulls the brace out of
position
range of Motion Adjustment (roM)(Picture 10):
The brace comes with a 0° extension stop setting. The extension stops
can be adjusted using the 5°, 10°, or 15° stop. Note: Optimal corrective
forces are applied at full extension.
1. Remove the condyle pads from the hinge
2. Remove retaining screw
3. Slide the 0° stop out of the hinge
4. Insert desired extension stop
5. Secure with the retaining screw. Do Not oVEr tIGHtEN!

The Unloader Spirit brace is designed for minimum maintenance and
care. Follow these easy maintenance steps to keep the brace in top
condition.
Cleaning
Liners, Straps and Strap Pads:
The liners mid strap, calf strap, thigh strap and all strap pads may
be removed for cleaning
DO NOT REMOVE THE DFS STRAP
DO NOT MACHINE WASH. DO NOT PLACE IN DRYER
Hand-wash using mild non-detergent soap
