Before you use the equipment for the first time:
The FACOM BOOSTER must always be recharged for a minimum of
12 hours before it is used for the first time.
This manual must be read and understood before handling or using
your FACOM BOOSTER.
I Safety instructions:
- A FACOM BOOSTER must only be used by personnel who are trained in its use.
- At all times follow the procedures provided by the manufacturers of the
vehicles to be started.
- Read the manual carefully and follow the instructions in it to the letter.
- Wear suitable safety equipment that complies with current legislation.
- Only use a 12 Volt FACOM BOOSTER on a 12 V vehicle.
- Warning: Do not reverse the polarity.
- Place the FACOM BOOSTER on the ground when starting a vehicle.
- Do not use the FACOM BOOSTER to start a vehicle that is not fitted with its
own starting battery.
- Do not use the FACOM BOOSTER to start a vehicle if the vehicle battery is
"open circuit" or the electrolyte has evaporated.
- The switch must always be in the OFF position with key removed except when
the FACOM BOOSTER is being used. 1
- If you are in any doubt do not use the FACOM BOOSTER.
- NEVER attempt to start a vehicle using the cigar lighter connection
- NEVER connect or disconnect the FACOM Booster to a vehicle with the output leads "Live".

III Checking the BOOSTER charge level:
Your FACOM BOOSTER is fitted with a charge indicator. Always check the charge
level before you use the FACOM BOOSTER.
To check the charge level, first make sure that the FACOM BOOSTER is not connec-
ted to either its charger or to a vehicle. Insert the switch key and press it 2 :
- GREEN LED (orange and red LED is also illuminated): Battery charged, the
FACOM BOOSTER is ready for use. The BOOSTER can remain permanently on
charge when in regular daily use. For occasional use, remove from charger and
refresher charge Booster every month or after each use.
- ORANGE LED (and red): Battery is not fully charged and can only be used for
a few starts. Place the BOOSTER on charge as soon as possible.
- RED LED only: Battery weak: do not use the FACOM BOOSTER – place on
charge immediately to avoid battery damage.
If you start a vehicle when only the RED LED is lit, you may "deep discharge" the
FACOM BOOSTER battery. This will cause the battery of your FACOM BOOSTER to
fail this failure is NOT covered by warranty.
IV Re-Charging your FACOM BOOSTER:
To re-charge your FACOM BOOSTER it must not be connected to a vehicle and the
isolator switch must be in OFF position. 1
First, Connect the charger plug to the FACOM BOOSTER then connect the charger
to the electricity network. 3
You may "top up" charge the battery by using the B12C accessory cable 4 .
The FACOM BOOSTER will only receive a "top up" charge when the engine of
the vehicle to which it is connected is running to avoid battery deep discharge
failure. NEVER leave the FACOM BOOSTER connected to the cigarette or accessory
socket UNLESS the engine is running.
Important: The battery in your FACOM BOOSTER does not suffer from "memory
effect". It can be re-charged at any time. Never attempt to discharge the pack
before re-charging – this will shorten the battery life and may cause battery failure.
Always re-charge after use. This will maximise battery life. If the battery is allowed
to become fully discharged, complete battery failure will occur and it will not accept
a re-charge. This is considered customer abuse and is not covered by the warranty.

V Starting a vehicle:
Always respect the procedure provided by the manufacturer of the vehicle to
be started. The vehicle must be in neutral or park with handbrake applied. We
strongly recommend that you place the FACOM BOOSTER on the ground to use it.
- Check that the switch is in OFF position and the key is removed 1 .
- Connect the + red clip to the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery.
- Connect the – black clip to the negative terminal of the vehicle's battery or
to the vehicle's chassis or metallic mass.
- If the polarity is reversed an alarm will sound to alert you. Even if the alarm
does not sound, always double check the polarity before switching on the pack.
- Make sure nothing can come into contact with the vehicle's moving parts.
- Power up the FACOM BOOSTER by inserting the key and turning it clockwise.
- Start the vehicle. If the vehicle does not start after 5 seconds, shut down
and let the FACOM BOOSTER rest for 3 minutes before trying again. .This will
maximise the pack performance
- After the vehicle has started, check to confirm that the alternator is
charging the battery. The two green LEDs should be illuminated 5 . This test
checks the alternator output voltage but does not check the operation of the
regulator or the vehicle alternator's diode bridge.
- About 30 seconds after the vehicle has started, turn off the pack and
REMOVE the key, NEVER leave the pack connected to the vehicle with the
engine running.
- Disconnect the – black clip (negative terminal) from the vehicle first then
disconnect the + red clip (positive terminal) from the vehicle.
After using the FACOM BOOSTER place it on charge as soon as practical.
VI Powering a vehicle when removing its battery:
When changing a battery for example, you may power the vehicle to avoid lo-
sing any stored electronic data or radio codes by using your FACOM BOOSTER.
Connect the B12C accessory cable between the FACOM BOOSTER and the
vehicle's cigar lighter or power socket 4 . Use a socket that is powered
"before contact".
Make sure that you do not cause a short circuit. There is no electrical protec-
tion via the cigar lighter output.
VII Maintenance:
The FACOM BOOSTER must be kept in perfect condition. Only approved repair
personnel or the FACOM after sales department are authorised to carry out
repairs to the pack.
To guarantee a long life and maximum performance, we recommend the
BOOSTER should always remain fully charged when not in use. Remember,
if you allow the battery to become fully discharged, it will be destroyed. This
failure is not covered by the warranty.
VIII Recycling:
Your BOOSTER's battery must be recycled when it reaches the end of its life. You
must remove and recycle it in the same way as for lead automobile batteries.
If in doubt contact your distributor.
