Modular EMERGENCY STOP button system
EMERGENCY STOP buttons in the SNH Series are electrome-
chanical switching devices for the protection of persons at or
in the vicinity of machines. They are used for switching off /
shutting down machines and systems in order to prevent or
reduce occurring or existing dangers for persons or damage to
the machine or work material.
The operating element actuates the safetyswitching
elements.
The switching elements of the panel mount version are fitted
with a so-called failure switch-off system in order to maintain
the safety in the case of the switching element falling off the
operating element.
The self monitoring opens a contact if the switching element
is separated from the operating element and triggers the
EMERGENCY STOP function.

Installation and connection

When using illuminated operating elements, maximum 230 V AC
is permitted to be connected to the switching elements.
2.1 Panel mount version
1. Drill mounting holes in the mounting plate
(see illustration on page 25)
2. Insert the operating element through the mounting hole
and fasten it with the lock nut (maximum torque 2.5 Nm)
3. Attach the switching element and turn this clockwise by
one eighth of a turn. The switching element engages.
4. Check whether the contacts of the failure switch-off are
closed when the switching element is engaged and the
operating element
is not actuated.
5. Connect the connecting wires to the terminal blocks. In
doing so, note the permitted electrical and mechanical
values (see Chapter 6 "Technical Data" on page 6)
2.2 Surface-mounted version
1. Mount the bottom part of the case on a flat surface (see
Fig. SNH 6001 on page 25 for the drilled hole spacing)
2. Insert the connecting wire through one of the two M20
cable entries.
3. Connect the connecting wires to the terminal blocks. In
doing so, note the permitted electrical and mechanical
values (see Chapter 6 "Technical Data" on page 6)

Check before initial commissioning
• Mechanical function check
− The operating element is fastened so that it cannot twist.
− The mounting nut is tightened so that no play in the
longitudinal direction is discernible.
