To "north in" place the map on a surface as
flat as possible. Place the compass on an
edge of the map so that the blue marking line
coincides exactly with the vertical line of the
grid. Arrange the compass cord evenly
underneath the compass so that it lies as flat
as possible on the map. The North marker of
the compass will show towards the top. Now
carefully turn the whole map with the com-
pass until the red end of the needle coincides
with the North marker.
