If the equipment is not used in the manner
described in this manual the protection provided
by the equipment may be impaired.
WARNING! This Overhead Stirrer is not
suitable for use in inflammable or
explosive atmospheres. It should not be
used to stir any inflammable liquids unless
they are in a suitable sealed vessel where
there is no possibility of gases or vapours
coming into contact with the Overhead
Stirrer body.

Electrical Installation

THIS EQUIPMENT MUST BE EARTHED
Before connection please ensure that the
mains power supply corresponds to that
shown on the rating plate.
All models are supplied with a mains lead fitted
with an IEC plug to fit the IEC socket on the
short flying lead emerging from the Stirrer
mounting bar. This lead should be connected to
the flying lead BEFORE connection to the mains
supply. Should the mains lead require
replacement a cable of 1mm
code H05W-F connected to an IEC 320 plug
should be used.
Most Stuart equipment is supplied with the
mains lead fitted with a moulded plug for
connection to the electricity supply. If this is not
the case it should be fitted with a plug approved
for the country in which it is to be used, noting
that the mains lead has cables coloured
according to the following code:

Brown-
Green/yellow- Earth
If required the plug should be fitted with a 10A
fuse to protect the cable. All models are
protected by two fuses located in the back
panel. These conform to IEC127 and are rated as
follows:

General Description

The Stuart Overhead Stirrers are designed for
effective mixing of large volumes or viscous
liquids. All models have an easy to use keyless
chuck, an enclosed mains cable designed to be
kept away from moving parts, and overload
protection for maximum safety.
SS10 General Purpose Stirrer: is designed for
use in aqueous and low viscosity liquids to a
maximum volume of 15 litres.
SS20 High Performance Stirrer: is designed
for use in low to medium viscosity liquids to a
maximum volume of 25 litres. It has a hollow
spindle to enable long stirrer shafts to be used or
for raising the paddle out of vessels easily.
SS30 Dual Torque Stirrer: is designed for use in
low to high viscosity liquids to a maximum
volume of 40 litres. It has the same hollow
spindle as the SS20, and two modes of
operation - mode 1 gives high torque at lower
speeds, mode 2 higher speed at lower torque.

Safety Advice Before Use
❖ Never operate the Stirrer without first
clamping the mounting rod securely. It is NOT
intended to be hand held. In use the stability
of the Overhead Stirrer is dependant on the
security of the mounting assembly. The
operator should ensure that the mounting is
adequate for the intended application. (See
the Accessories Section for stand and stirrer
paddles available).
❖ Clamp the stirrer shaft securely in the chuck
and lock before operating the Stirrer.
❖ Do not operate models SS20 or SS30 with a
stirrer shaft protruding through the top of
the Overhead Stirrer without first removing
the top grommet.
❖ Do not mix flammable liquids or use the
equipment in hazardous atmospheres.
❖ In case of mains interrupting, a fault or
mechanical failure, the unit will continue to
operate on removal of fault.
