Once termination is complete, carefully replace the cover back onto the enclosure, avoiding damage to the mating
surfaces. Replace the cover and tighten the 3 off screws evenly. Ensure the O-ring is correctly seated in its groove
during re-assembly.
3. OPERATION
The operating voltage of the unit is stated on the unit label.
3a. Volume Control:
* (On 10 Joule unit only). The volume on both the AC and DC units can be controlled by means of a potentiometer
(VR1) mounted on the top face of the xenon PCB. Maximum volume is obtained by turning the potentiometer fully
clockwise. Conversely, turning the potentiometer in an anti-clockwise direction will reduce the volume until no
sound will be heard. Do not attempt to adjust the potentiometer beyond its limits as this may cause damage to
the unit and prevent correct operation of the unit.
For details of how to access the volume control, see section 3e below.
3b. Flash Rate:
On the DC versions of the unit, the flash rate can be selected by means of a jumper mounted on the top face of the
xenon PCB. There are three positions available (SP, F80 & F120). These positions give the following flash rates:
SP – 60 fpm (flashes per minute)
F80 – 80 fpm
F120 – 120 fpm
The flash rate of the AC version is pre-set by MEDC prior to shipping and cannot be adjusted once set.
For details of how to access the flash rate control, see section 3e below.
3c. Tones:
The unit is available in the following configurations.
Note:-
the term 'remote initiate' covers both telephone initiate and 24Vdc relay initiate options
●
single stage means that bank 1 of the tone selection switches is enabled allowing the selection of 1 of up to
●
27 user selectable tones.
dual stage means that bank 2 of tone selection switches is enabled allowing the selection of 1 of up
●
to 27 user selectable tones. The user can then switch between the tone selected on switch bank 1 and 2.
Type 1. DC input, single stage sounder, combined sounder/beacon operation
Type 2. DC input, single stage sounder, remote initiate, combined sounder/beacon operation.
Type 3. DC input, single stage sounder with independent sounder/beacon operation.
Type 4. DC input, dual stage sounder, combined sounder/beacon operation.
Type 5. DC input, dual stage sounder, remote initiate, combined sounder/beacon operation.
Type 6. DC input, dual stage sounder with independent sounder/beacon operation.
Type 7. AC input, single stage sounder, combined sounder/beacon operation.
Type 8. AC input, single stage sounder, remote initiate, combined sounder/beacon operation.
Type 9. AC input, single stage sounder with independent sounder/beacon operation.
The dual stage unit can switch between the two stages by either:-
(a)
Reversing the polarity of the supply (2 wire)
(b)
Connecting as a 3 wire common +ve system and switching between the two –ve lines.
i.e. With T1 (+ve) & T2 (-ve) stage 1 is active.
(a) With T1 (-ve) & T2 (+ve) stage 2 is active.
(b) With T1 (+ve) & T3 (-ve) stage 2 is active.
Note that on the Type 5 units, the dual stage sounder will only be connected using 2 wires and the second
stage will need to be selected using method (a) above.
