INDUCTIVE COUPLER FOR UNDERGROUND
EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION
The UNIC is an inductive coupler for insulated underground medium
voltage cables, used for the transmission of PLCBPL signals on a
frequency range from 2 MHz to 40 MHz.

BASIC SAFETY RULES
This manual is not intended to substitute the procedures for operation
and safety that are currently valid and adopted by electric companies for
field installation works. Please read all of the instructions of this manual
before installing the UNIC coupler.
The coupler must only be installed by personnel qualified in electrical
safety standards and handling of medium voltage electrical equipment.
As basic electrical safety rules, we recommend the obligatory ones
established by the electric utilities for the installation of devices similar to
the UNIC. The most similar example is an open low voltage toroidal
transformer for installing on insulated cables.
In addition to the basic safety rules, the following specific safety rules
must be followed:
1. NEVER install the UNIC over non-insulated MV cables as the cables´s
insulation itself must bear the voltage and not the UNIC.
2. Once the coupler is installed, the signal and ground cables must not be
close to the rest of the MV elements located inside the switchgear.
DESCRIPTION OF CONNECTIONS
During the installation of the UNIC coupler, two connections must be
done:
1. Connection of the coupler to the repeater equipment by means of a
coaxial cable through the BNC connector (see Pic.1).
2. Connection of the M6 ground connectors to the switchgear´s general
ground point (see Pic.2).
