C. Installation on a triphasic Cable
The diameter of the triphasic cables are too large to install the standard
UNIC inductive coupler. However, all triphasic cables are, at some point,
converted into three monophasic, generally inside the switchgear.
Therefore, if there is sufficient space inside the switchgear and each
phase maintains a stretch of insulation with ground shield where the UNIC
can be installed, we can proceed with installation as though it was a
monophasic cable. (see Pic. 5).
COMMON INSTALLATION ERRORS
Phase Identification. It is vital to correctly identify the phase to which the
signal is coupled on each side of the link. Otherwise, when the line is
charged it will be unable to send any signal.
Selection of Coupling Point. The UNIC coupler must always be installed
at a point of the cable where there is the ground shield. It is important to
note that the UNIC has been designed to be installed on insulated MV
cables and therefore the cable itself is supposed to provide the necessary
insulation.
Inadequate Connection to Ground. With the objective of coupling the
PLC-BPL signal upon the cable core and thereby creating a
communications circuit needed between one of the phases and ground,
we must pass the ground braid of the MV cable through the coupler before
connecting it to the switchgear´s general ground. If not, up to 10 dB of
signal can be lost and even the communication
Creating unwanted Ground Loops. It is important that the grounding
connection of the cable´s shield does not have any connection to earth
before it passes through the interior of the coupler. Otherwise, the passing
of the braid through the coupler before connecting it to the earth would
have been in vain.
Coaxial cable in poor Condition. Before connecting the coupler, make
sure that the coaxial cable has been correctly fitted.
UNINSTALLATION
To proceed with uninstalling the UNIC, once the discharge of the line has
been carried out, follow the steps below:
1. Disconnect the coaxial data cable.
2. Disconnect the ground connection.
3. Remove the coupler from the cable by cutting the fixing strap.
