Technical refinements of the Portuguese Tourbillon Mystère
Your Portuguese Tourbillon Mystère shows you the time in hours, minutes
and seconds, together with the power reserve. The mechanical movement
with self-winding, visible through the case back with its sapphire glass, has
44 jewels (synthetic rubies) and has a power reserve of 7 days (168 hours)
when fully wound. The engraved rotor with its 18 carat gold medallion winds
the watch in both directions of rotation via the Pellaton automatic winding
mechanism.
The Portuguese Tourbillon Mystère is shock-proof and water-resistant
3 bar. Your watch is equipped with a tourbillon, a unique micromechanism,
which reduces the effect of gravity on the accuracy to a minimum. The tour-
billon, an invention made soon after the French Revolution, has since been
considered the ultimate challenge in the quest for absolute mechanical
watchmaking precision. Specifically, the purpose of the mechanism is to
counterbalance the one-sided pull of the earth's gravity on the balance. This
is because the residual gravitational error of the balance can adversely affect
the accuracy depending on the position of the watch. Luckily, there is a way
of surmounting the problems caused by one of the basic laws of physics.
The balance, the pallets and the escape wheel are mounted in a tiny cage or
carriage that rotates once around itself every minute, virtually eliminating
gravitational error. It is absolutely essential to observe a few important op-
erating notes to ensure that this extraordinary watch is able to perform its
tasks in the future.
