Place front ratchet and hook at a width equal to the maximum width
of canoe or boat plus 1.5" (4cm). Loosely tighten the square heabolt
bolts and knobs - after adjustments they will be tightened all the

Lower the stoppers on both roller bases (rachet side and hook side) to
free the rollers to spin for loading.

Lift boat slightly at front bar and adjust gunnel holder to approx. 0.2" to
0.4" (5 to 10 mm) from boat.

Move front ratchet and hook bases in near gunnel holders and secure
them to bar by tightening knob nuts.
Note
If stay is between gunnel holder and base,
the two need not make contact.

Throw strap over to the other side of car across canoe.
Remove any kinks or twists in strap while securing.

Draw out strap slightly and turn ratchet knob to secure boat. Strap
should be tightened 2 to 3 turns.

Place cushion on gunnel holder and mount on bar as in the illustration.

[1] Lift bow and rest upside down on rollers with bow facing forward.
[2] Lift stern slightly and slide boat forward until bow reaches front bar.
[3] Let bow rest on front bar and adjust boat position so that its center
of gravity is near the center of front and rear crossbars and boat lies
parallel with the forward direction of the vehicle.

Secure all gunnel holders to bars using hex bolts and
knob nuts.

- Use one of two mounting holes provided in
gunnel holder.
- Guide hex bolt through appropriate hole so
it won't interfere with stay.

Strap must securely engage with hook.

Guide strap end through the slot in the reel on the ratchet side.
Note
Insert strap into slot 2" (5 cm) and rotate
ratchet knob by half a turn.
Strap end now faces forward and drawing
out belt becomes easy.
