INTRODUCTION

2
12
An electric Arc Flash is a fault current, e.g. generated by a short-circuit travelling through ionized air - the so-called plasma,
22
together with tremendous amounts of convective heat an arc flash comes along with disastrous doses of electromagnetic
radiation (i.e. extremely high levels of ultraviolet radiation (UV), infrared radiation (IR) and high energy visible light). The
32
explosively expanding heat generates toxic air, extreme noise (i.e. explosion bang) and a rapidly progressing pressure wave
42
- most probably accompanied by flying debris (e.g. fragments, molten metal).
52
62
An arc flash incident usually is caused by a system fault or a handling mistake in a high current electrical environment,
regardless whether this is a low, medium or high voltage system.
72
82
With the AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield you have purchased a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) device
92
designed to reduce the harmful effects of an arc flash accident (electrical fault arc) to your eyes and face, when correctly
selected and used.
To be properly protected you must carefully study this manual before use!

GENERAL WARNINGS

• The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield must be in the lowered position to offer protection.
• Do not over expose to sunlight
3
• Do not use for welding
• Do not expose to open fire for long periods of time
3
• Surface may get hot when exposed to electromagnetic radiation
3
• Replace when exposed to chemicals, oils or lubricants
• Replace if damaged by mechanical impact
4
• Only use as a kit with the chinguard attached
4
• Only use original replacement parts
• Make sure that your work place is sufficiently illuminated
5
• Material which may come into a contact with the wearer's skin could cause allergic reactions to susceptible individuals if
this is the case, leave the hazard area, remove the helmet and faceshield and seek doctor's advice.
5
• The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield protects against high speed particles. When worn over standard
6
ophthalmic spectacles, they may transmit impacts, thus creating a hazard to the wearer.
• For a Faceshield to comply with field of use symbol 8 it shall be fitted with a filter of scale number, at least, 2-1.2 and have
7
a minimum thickness of 1.4 mm.
• For an eye protector to comply with field of use symbol 9 both the frame and ocular shall be marked with the symbols
7
together with one of the symbols F, B or A.
• If the symbol F, B and A are not common to both the oculars and the frame then it is the lower which shall be assigned to the
7
complete eye protector.
7
• The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield should be used as part of an arc flash protective ensemble that also includes
suitable arc flash protective clothing and gloves
