Installing the UDF reader software for Windows 95, Windows 98,
Windows Me, Windows 2000, and Windows NT 4.0
The UDF reader software is provided to read discs written with DirectCD on
PCs that do not have DirectCD installed. When you install DirectCD on your
computer, a copy of the UDF reader installer is copied to your hard disk as
well. You can install the UDF reader on other PCs to read your own
UDF-created discs. The location of the UDF reader installer varies depending
on your operating system and language selection.
To install the UDF reader, do the following:
1. Select Start-->Find-->Files or Start-->Find-->Folders.
2. Search your computers hard drive for the file UDFRINST.EXE.
3. Copy the file UDFRINST.EXE from the found files list to a diskette.
4. Take the diskette to the computer with which you wish to read your
DirectCD discs.
5. On the new computer, click My Computer, click the diskette icon, and then
click the UDFRINST.EXE icon.
6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the software installation.
7. Restart the PC.
Note: The UDF reader is not required on computers that have DirectCD
installed. It is provided for use on computers that share media with the
computer that writes with DirectCD.

Using CD-R and CD-RW discs

The CD-RW can write to both CD-R and CD-RW discs. CD-RW discs can be
erased and reused many times, while CD-R discs can be written to only once.
CD Creator is used to copy CDs, create new data CDs, and produce new audio
CDs that can be read by standard CD-ROM drives and CD players.
DirectCD is used to make file archives and data CDs that can be altered many
times. It also provides the convenience of direct drive letter access. When used
with CD-RW media, DirectCD is very much like using a diskette to store files.
If DirectCD is used with CD-R media, you can write until the CD is full, and
then the data becomes fixed. DirectCD-created media can only be read with
newer CD-ROM drives and DVD-ROM drives that support multi-read mode.
Some operating systems require a UDF Reader to be able to read
DirectCD-created discs.
Note: CD-R discs are playable on audio CD players. CD-RW discs are not
playable on most audio CD players.
