Instructions for Use – Zero Gravity Balancers
The device and its components – especially the cable, the suspension and the anti-crash safety
device – must be visually inspected on a daily basis (prior to starting work). If damage or wear is
detected, the respective components must be replaced or the balancer withdrawn from service at
once.
The cable of the zero gravity balancer must be checked for potential damage at least once a year
by a competent person (ISO 4309). Never use a balancer when the cable is defective.
Except for cable replacement, the spring tension must be fully released before performing any
service or repair work (see Service Instructions, "Replacing the spring").
RESIDUAL HAZARDS
DANGER!
WARNING!
CAUTION!
34
Severe, even lethal injury possible!
NEVER stand, work or pass under suspended loads!
Danger of very serious injury!
Hook or unhook loads only when the cable is FULLY retracted.
NEVER remove a load from an extended cable. Be aware that the cable
may snap back violently in such case!
An unloaded cable snapping back violently may break out of its
mount, thus being no longer properly anchored inside the zero gravity
balancer. Be sure to withdraw the balancer from service immediately
in any such case, mark it accordingly, and inform your superior or the
responsible person.
Be sure to operate the zero gravity balancer only at the suspended
load. Grasping the cable stop buffer or the cable clamp for this pur-
pose may crush your fingers and therefore is strictly forbidden.
If tools are pulled out at an angle exceeding the permitted angulation
of 5°, they could swing to and fro violently when set free, causing inju-
ries as a result.
Before allowing personnel to work with the zero gravity balancer, the
operator is required to instruct them in the proper handling of the de-
vice in accordance with these Instructions for Use.
Never operate the zero gravity balancer without the safety equipment
in place (e.g. suspension (2), anti-crash safety device (3) or load hook
(9)! Never remove such safety devices or modify them in an attempt
to make them inoperative!
It is strictly forbidden to use defective zero gravity balancers. For ex-
ample, this would be the case if a balancer crashes down, or if its fall
is stopped by the anti-crash safety chain. Such a balancer must not
be reused unless both the strained anti-crash safety device (3) and
the housing have been replaced.
Only specially authorized and trained persons are permitted to repair,
disassemble or reassemble the zero gravity balancer. Note that it is
mandatory to use original spare parts from Carl Stahl Kromer GmbH
in any such case, as only genuine parts meet the required safety cri-
teria.
