Prior to performing any maintenance work,
and before replacing parts, the power plug
must be disconnected.
Troubleshooting
Faults often have simple causes which you can
rectify yourself with the aid of the following sum-
mary. In case of doubt or of faults or remedies
not mentioned here apply to the authorized cu-
stomer service.
Danger of electric shock!
Repair work on the unit can only be carried out
by the authorized customer service.
Decreased steam amount
• Appliance is decalcified.
–> decalcify appliance.
Steam decreases during the work / no steam
• No more water in the water reservoir
–> refill water
Steam lever cannot be pressed anymore
• Steam lever with lock (A4) is locked (lock at the
front).
–> push lock backwards.
Safety thermostat
If the temperature control fails and the appliance
overheats, then the safety thermostat turns off
the appliance. Please contact your local Kärcher
customer service to arrange for the reset of the
safety thermostat.
Descaling
If you always use demineralized or distilled
water, a cleaning of the appliance is not
required.
• We recommend to descale the boiler using the
Kärcher bio-descaler RM 511. This bio-
descaler is based on citric acid and is, thus,
completely biodegradable.
Only use products approved by Kärcher to
exclude any damages of the appliance.
Decalcify your appliance at regular intervals

Non-compliance with the decalcifying
regulations can cause optional disorders,
for example significantly decreased steam
amounts and blockage of the steam nozzle.
Start of the decalcification
• The steam cleaner must be disconnected from
the electrical mains and must be cooled.
• Dissolve 10 g (1 teaspoon) of Kärcher bio-
descaler RM 511 totally in 0.1 litre of warm
water.
• Pour this decalcification solution into the water
reservoir (B1).
• Close the water reservoir (B1) with the reservoir
cover (B3) and attach the water reservoir at the
housing.
• Remove the nozzle insert (A1) from the steam
nozzle (A2). Turn for this the nozzle insert with
a coin in an anti-clockwise direction and pull off
the nozzle insert.
• Press the decalcification pump (A5) for approx.
one minute in regular pump movements until
the decalcification solution escapes from the
open steam nozzle (best over a washbasin)
• Release and empty the water reservoir. Rinse
the water reservoir with clear water.
• Allow the decalcification solution to take effect
in the appliance for 8 hours.
Rinsing of the dissolved limescale
• Fill the water reservoir (B1) with water and
attach the water reservoir at the housing.
Do not plug in the mains plug!
• Pump the water for one minute, with the
decalcification pump (A5), through the
appliance into a washbasin.
• Hold the appliance over a washbasin and now
plug the mains plug (A8) into a wall socket.
• Press the steam lever (A3) and let the appliance
evaporate into a washbasin for two minutes.
Hot water spots – scalding danger!
• Put the nozzle insert (A1) again into the steam
nozzle (A2) and turn strongly the nozzle insert
clockwise.
The steam cleaner is now ready for use again.
