13. Use of the microscope in Polarized light (PO)
13.1 Use of polarized light
1. Move the selector on the reflected light illuminator in the
position "BF". (Fig. 39)
Polarized light observation cannot be performed when
the BF/DF selector is in "DF" position.
2. Insert the polarizer "PO" with the inscription facing the user
(before remove the empty slider).
3. Move the polarizer "PO" into the light path until the slider
clicks into its position. (Fig. 47)
4. Insert analyser "AN" with the inscription facing up (first
removing the covering plates on the illuminator).
5. Move the rotatable analyser "AN" into the light path until the
slider clicks into its position. (Fig. 48-49)
6. Put a flat mirror on the stage and get into approximate focus
the mirror surface.
7. While observing into the eyepieces, rotate the scale of the
analyser ① until you achieve the darkest image. (Fig. 50)
Now the light extinction (so-called "crossed Nicol position")
is achieved.
8. Put a specimen on the stage, focus the specimen and begin
observation.
