CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the battery cartridge is removed before installing or removing
the cutters.
Replace the cutters in accordance with the following procedure. Use only Makita genuine cutters for the tool.
1. There are two cutters. Cutter A is to be installed on the cutter head, and cutter B on the cutter rod. Be sure
to install them in the correct respective position. Refer to the table below for the cutter sizes.
Cutter A
28 x 20 x 11.5 mm (four cutting edges)
2. To install the cutters, first remove the two hex socket head bolts holding the cutters on the cutter head and
cutter rod, respectively.
3. Wipe off any dirt or foreign matter from the cutter-mounting position on the cutter head and cutter rod.
4. Secure firmly cutter A on the cutter head and cutter B on the cutter rod, using their respective flat washers
and hex socket head bolts. Failure to tighten securely is extremely dangerous.
Installing balance stand (Fig. 4)

to block the air vents.
Switch action (Fig. 5)
CAUTION:
Before inserting the battery cartridge into the tool,
always check to see that the switch trigger actuates
properly and returns to the ''OFF'' position when

Cutting operation
WARNING:
When the cutter is chipped, cracked or deformed,
immediately replace it by new one. Cutting steel rods
with such a damaged cutter can cause the cutter to be
out of position or broken, resulting in serious personal
injuries.
WARNING:
When cutting hard steel rods, steel debris can fly
about strongly, resulting in serious personal injuries.
Therfore, before starting operation, always make sure
that nobody is in the dangerous areas around the
job-site.
And the operator must always wear safety glasses
against any possible accident.
WARNING:
While operating the tool, keep your hands and face
away from cutters, all moving parts and the place
where steel debris is wasted out.
1. Fixing a steel rod (workpiece) (Fig. 6 & 7)
WARNING:
Before starting cutting operation, always be sure
to turn the stopper bolt to fix a steel rod while
keeping the steel rod at right angles to the cutters.
Failure to fix a steel rod correctly can result in
serious personal injuries because the moment
when the rod is cut off, steel debris can jump high
or fly about.

Cutter B
26 x 20 x 10 mm (four cutting edges)
Place a steel rod between the cutters so that it
makes right angles to the cutters. Make sure that
the steel rod is rested fully within the blades, and
then pull up the protector to cover the steel rod
and cutters in order to prevent steel debris from
flying. And then, turn the stopper bolt to fix the
steel rod firmly.
The steel rod supported by the stopper bolt keeps
at right angles to the cutters till cut-off operation is
completed.
2. Positioning of steel rod
WARNING:
Always be sure to set a steel rod in the lowest
position between the cutters as illustrated to the
right of Fig. 8.
Cutting a steel rod rested in the wrong position as
illustrated to the left of Fig. 8 can cause steel
debris to fly about strongly at the time when the
steel rod is cut off, tesulting in serious personal
injuries.
And it can also be a cause of damage to cutters.
WARNING:
When you cut a short length off, never start cutting
operation if the steel rod is not fully suported by
the stopper bolt as illustrated to the left in Fig. 9.
If you disregard this warning and start operation,
steel debris can jump high or fly about, resulting in
serious personal injuries.
