This battery charger has:
• High charging current or 2 to 12 amps. It was developed to charge only lead-acid batteries for conventional
automobiles, agricultural equipment, boats, land vehicles, lawn mowers, motorcycles and several commer-
cial applications.
• 12-Vdc output which supplies a current of up to 10A (amps) for any device that operates in 12Vdc.
• Microprocessor with three charging stages (see Figure 5.1). 1st stage is essentially constant charging cur-
rent. It continues until the battery reaches 85% of its full charge. When the 1st stage is over, the charger
changes to 2nd stage: absorption phase. In this stage, the applied voltage is essentially constant and produ-
ces approximately 10% of the charge. The applied current decreases gradually as the battery charges. At the
end of the 2nd stage, the charger changes to the 3rd stage. The 3rd stage keeps a constant applied voltage
and a minimum current in the battery in order to keep it completely charged. The charger shows "FULL" when
the second stage finishes and the battery is fully charged.

The charger has configuration for three charging levels, that is, 2A, 6A or 12A. The selection must be done as
follows:
• Battery Capacity 6-20Ah - 2A (amps): for small batteries with capacities of 6 to 20 Ah (Amps-hour), like those
used in loan mowers, motorcycles, burglar alarms, etc.
• Battery Capacity 20-40Ah - 6A (amps): for medium batteries with capacity of 20 to 40 Ah (Ampers-hours),
such as those for emergency lights, model airplanes, boats, etc.
• Battery Capacity 40-120Ah - 12A (amps): for large batteries with capacity of 40 to 120 Ah, such as those for
automobiles in general.
Note: The examples of equipment per capacity are merely for orientation. For further details, follow the recom-
mendations of the manufacturer thoroughly.
