Cleaning and Sterilizing Before Use
The components that come into contact with breast milk are not provided sterile and must be
cleaned and sterilized for the first use. Moreover, these components must be cleaned after each
use to avoid the buildup of dry milk residue which can lead to the growth of bacteria that can be
harmful to you and your baby.
Clean and sterilize these milk-contact components before first use and after every use: flange,
breast shield body, milk bottle, milk bottle lid, milk bottle teat, and duckbill valve.
WARNING: Always take apart components before cleaning or sterilizing. After cleaning, make
sure the components are completely dry.
WARNING: If the duckbill valve is clogged with milk, clean it gently with a cotton swab. Never
rub or knead it with your fingers.
