Note
The RS 485-IS coupler can be used as a device category 3G PROFIBUS node in hazardous
zone 2 areas. Intrinsically safe electrical equipment for device categories 2G and 3G and for
zones 1 and 2 can be connected.
Maintenance
The RS 485-IS coupler is maintenance-free. In the event of a need for repair, the module must be sent to
the manufacturing site. Repairs must be carried out there. If problems occur, please contact your local
Siemens office:

Installation
• The RS 485-IS coupler should be installed inside the hazardous area of the hazardous area (zone 2)
in a suitable housing that provides at least IP 54 protection. The ambient conditions also have to be
taken into account. There must be a manufacturer's declaration for zone 2 available for the housing
(in accordance with EN 60079-15).
• If a temperature of > 70 °C is reached in the cable or at the cable entry of this housing under
operating conditions, or if a temperature of > 80 °C can be reached at the junction of the conductors
under operating conditions, the temperature-related properties of the cables must correspond to the
temperatures actually measured.
Commissioning
• Only field devices which are certified for the PROFIBUS RS 485-IS interface may be connected to the
RS 485-IS coupler.
• As bus cable for the PROFIBUS RS 485-IS use: e.g. 6XV1 830-0EH10.
• The RS 485-IS coupler must be equipotentially bonded (PA) before connecting the PROFIBUS
RS 485-IS to the terminals!
Connecting PROFIBUS-DP (X1 DP):
1. Insert the bus connector onto the PROFIBUS DP connection.
Note
The cable shield of the bus cable is connected in service to the RS 485-IS Coupler by means
of a spring-type terminal with the mounting rail and consequently with the equipotential
bonding.
2. Use the 3.5 mm screwdriver to tighten the lockscrews of the bus connector (torque: 0.5 to 0.7 Nm).

Trim the cables to desired length, strip off 10 mm and apply ferrules
Label the bus cable as "Ex i bus cable".
