Red light WARNING – What can be done?
Use your new SoundEar® to find out where and when noise problems arise in your sur-
roundings – and solve them once and for all. Please be aware however, that the noise
in many cases will return after a while. It is therefore necessary to keep a constant eye
on the noise level using SoundEar®.
In order to get the best possible out of your SoundEar®, everyone in the room must
get accustomed to watching out for and reacting to the warning signal. As soon as
the red ear lights up, remove the source or reduce the noise level immediately.
The following is a list of things that you can do when the red ear lights up:

throughout a normal working day.

1.
Separate and divide noisy and quiet activities into different rooms.
2.
Use sound absorbing materials in the room – e.g. padded furniture,
carpets, cork notice boards and curtains. Portable room dividers can
also bring the noise level down.
3.
Noise-neutralise the furniture – e.g. felt disks under the legs of chairs
and thick (wax) tablecloths on tables.
4.
Buy machines that create as little noise as possible and make sure
that they are well maintained.
5.
Turn the music, television or radio off if no-one is watching/listening
to it. Turn the sound down!
6.
Use rubber beading around doors and windows if the noise is coming
from outside. Close doors and windows if there is noise outside.
7.
Fight the "noise spiral" – where you keep turning the sound up on
the radio or shouting louder to drown out the existing noise level.
Remove the source or lower the noise level instead.
8.
Check the air-conditioning system – is it making too much noise?
Does it meet the requirements?
9.
Limit the time you stay in areas with noisy machines like photocopiers,
washing machines and tumble dryers etc. Close the door.
10.
Wear soft-sole shoes on hard floors.
No-one must be exposed to an average noise level above 85 dB(A)
