Information on servicing:
Before working on flammable refrigerants, safety checks are necessary to minimise
ignition risk.
The following precautions must be taken before repairing the refrigerating system.
To reduce the risk of flammable gas or vapour during work, a controlled procedure must
be followed:
● Ensure all maintenance staff and others working in the area are aware of the work
being carried out. Avoid working in confined spaces, section off the area around the
workspace and ensure conditions within the area are safe.
● To detect potentially flammable atmospheres, check the area with an appropriate
refrigerant detector (non-sparking and tightly sealed) before and during work.
● Have appropriate fire extinguishing equipment available if any hot work is being
conducted.
● Keep all possible ignition sources, including cigarette smoking, sufficiently far away
from the site of installation, repair, removal and disposal, as flammable refrigerant
could be released into the surrounding space. Before work, check the area around the
equipment to ensure there are no flammable hazards or ignition risks. 'No Smoking'
signs must be displayed in the working area.
● Before breaking into the system or conducting hot work, ensure the area is in the open
and properly ventilated, so any released refrigerant can be safely dispersed.
