PRESENTATION:
The PROTECTOR ELEVATOR is a self-recoiling fall arrester that complies with the requirements of European
Union Directive EEC 89/686. The cable coils and uncoils from drum as the user moves up and down. A return spring
keeps the cable taut at all times. In the event of a fall, a locking mechanism prevents the cable from unwinding,
stopping the fall instantly. The device is enclosed in a housing and requires no special maintenance.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Cable diameter: 4 mm – breaking strain > 12 kN
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
The device must be configured for fall-arrester operation before use. We recommend attaching the PROTECTOR
ELEVATOR to a TRIPOD such as the TR001 or TR002.
The PROTECTOR ELEVATOR's anchor point must be located above the user, and have a breaking strain of at least
10 kN.
Check that there are no obstacles liable to prevent the cable uncoiling in normal use, and that there is sufficient
clearance: allow at least 2 m below the user's feet.
We recommend individually assigning a PROTECTOR ELEVATOR to each user. It is essential for a second person
to be present nearby, to conduct a rescue operation if required.
Fall arrester function: After a winching operation, and/or to restore the fall arrester function:
- Disengage the winching system by turning the winding handle sharply in a clockwise direction,
- Remove the winding handle (where applicable, replace it in its storage bracket on the TRIPOD),
- Jerk the cable to return the device to fall arrester mode.
Do not leave the winding handle connected to the device while it is operating as a fall arrester.
Winch function: In the event of an accident, the braking system stops the user's fall immediately. To raise or lower
the user to safety:
- Insert the winding handle,
- Perform the winching manoeuvre (to raise or lower the user).
STOP UNWINDING CABLE WITH THE HANDLE AS SOON AS THE USER TOUCHES THE GROUND
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE:
. Check that the general set-up would not allow the user to fall unchecked or swing from side to side in the event of a
fall.
. Check that the harness is securely attached to the end of the cable.
. Avoid sharp edges and corrosion hazards.
. Fall arrester components must not be replaced.
. Releasing the cable suddenly while uncoiled is not recommended; instead, guide it back into the PROTECTOR
ELEVATOR.
VERIFICATION PROCEDURE:
The device must be systematically inspected:
- following a fall,
by the manufacturer or its appointed representative.
. Inspect the PROTECTOR ELEVATOR before use, checking that the cable uncoils and rewinds normally, that the
blocking mechanism functions correctly and that the cable is not damaged.
. Before each use, check the condition of the harness and snap hooks.
. If in doubt, or if there are signs of corrosion or deformation, return the device to the manufacturer or its appointed
representative.
SUITABILITY FOR USE:
The PROTECTOR ELEVATOR is designed for use with a fall arrester system comprising a harness, connector and
anchor point. Read the instructions concerning each component in the system before use.
CARE AND STORAGE: (Follow these instructions carefully).
Clean with water, then wipe with a dry cloth and hang in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally, away from open fires
or heat sources; this also applies to any parts that become wet during use.
The PROTECTOR ELEVATOR should be kept in a warm, dry and well-ventilated place. Take care to keep it away
from all heat sources.
