1 Operating Instruction Ubbink AlgClear UV-C
Start-up
ATTENTION! Before every intervention (first assembly, cleaning, installation and replacement of the UV-C-lamp, etc) the power supply of the AlgClear UV-C-device must always be
interrupted!
1. Determine the location for the AlgClear UV-C-device by taking into account the distance to the pond pump and a possibly existing or planned pond filter. If e.g. a water fall exists,
the AlgClear UV-C-device can also be connected at a higher location, to return the UV-C irradiated water to the pond via the water fall.
2. Insert the lamp before commissioning, as also described in the drawings on page 2 of these operating instructions:
a) Remove the protection cap (fig. 1.1. + 1.2.)
b) Loosen the 3 screws with a screwdriver and remove the top part with the electronics (fig. 1.3. + 1.4.)
c) AlgClear UV-C 2500/7000/10000: click the lamp into the socket
AlgClear UV-C 20000 / 35000 / 55000: Loosen the screw on the inside black base reinforcement using a screwdriver and remove the part. Click the light into the base and pull
the black base reinforcement over the lamp then fix again with the screw in the base. Place the enclosed transparent protective cap onto the top of the glass of the UV-C bulb
and then click the UV-C bulb into the socket (fig. 1.7. - 1.11.)
d) Then reassemble the unit in the reverse order (fig. 1.12. - 1.14.)
3. Secure the AlgClear UV-C-device with some stones in such a way that the device is stable and cannot fall into the water. Assembly on a wooden plank is also possible.
4. Fasten both brackets with a clip lock to the AlgClear UV-C-device align it by simply rotating it in such a way that it can later on be installed horizontally or vertically or screwed on.
5. Now, shorten the universal hose nipples according to the hose diameters for inlet (pump) and outlet (filter or return into pond).
6. Screw the hose nipples to the inlet and outlet connections. Hand-tight fastening is fully sufficient for tightness. Fastening too tight can cause the opposite or even damage of the
AlgClear UV-C-device or hose nipple.
7. Shorten the pond hose to the required lengths Fit the hose with hose clamps onto the hose nipples. In case of spiral pond hose take care that the hose clamps do not cut into the
spiral windings and no hairline cracks are formed. Should this indeed happen, shorten the hose by the length of the damaged portion.
Notice: Should it still be dripping from the connection between hose and hose nipple, you can stop this by wrapping commercially available Teflon-tape around the hose nipple.
8. Re-check before start-up of the AlgClear UV-C – device that
- the closing cover of the AlgClear UV-C-device is screwed on correctly,
-
the inlet and outlet connections at the AlgClear UV-C-device are tightened hand-tight,
- the hose connections between filter pump and pond filter or return to the pond are perfect,
- the operating instruction for the AlgClear UV-C-device have been read and the safety advice has been observed.
9. After this, you can start up the AlgClear UV-C-device in the following sequence:
- Always switch on the pond or filter pump first and check if the pond water flows smoothly through the AlgClear UV-C-device and if there are, possibly, still leaks.
- Only after this, switch on the AlgClear UV-C-device and check the function of the UV-C-lamp through the sight glass (at the front). Hereby, there is no direct danger; the
hazardous UV-C-radiation does not penetrate through the material.
10. Shutting down the plant, e.g. for maintenance, is carried out in reverse order, i.e. always switch off the AlgClear UV-C-device first and only then the garden pond or pond filter
pump.
ATTENTION! The power supply plug must always be pulled out first before any intervention (cleaning, installation and replacement of the UV-C-lamp, etc.)!
The AlgClear UV-C–device should be cleaned at least twice a year, depending on the pollution degree of the pond. Should the algae growth in your pond increase again, the quartz
tube, in which the UV-C-lamp is located, should be cleaned from dirt and lime deposition with a soft cleaning cloth, soaked with a soft cleaning agent (as e.g. vinegar solution). Avoid
scratches on the quartz glass and, if possible, do not hold the glass tube directly with your hands. Already small traces of sweat and fat on the quartz glass will burn into the quartz
glass due to the UV-C radiation and can later on cause a capacity reduction of your AlgClear UV-C-device.
The UV-C-lamps, installed in the AlgClear UV-C have a life of about 5,000 operating hours. After this operating time, the UV-Capacity has reduced so far that the UV-C-lamp must be
replaced. Suitable spare lamps are available from your Ubbink specialist dealer.
Carry out maintenance of your AlgClear UV-C-device as follows:
1. Always switch off first the AlgClear UV-C-device and only then the filter pump.
2. Loosen the hose connection and let the water drain from the AlgClear UV-C-device.
3. After this, open the fastening clips and take the AlgClear UV-C–device out of the brackets.
4. For removal of the quartz glass see also the drawings on page 2 of this operating instruction.
a) Pull off protective cap (Figures 2.1. + 2.2.)
b) Loosen 3 screws with screw driver (Figure 2.3.)
c) Take off top electronic part together with the lamp (Figure 2.4.)
d) Then remove the glass tube (quartz glass) carefully with the aid of a 10 or 20-Euro-cent coin (2.5.)
5. Clean the housing and, if necessary, replace the UV-C-lamp (2.6 + 2.7)
6. After carried out maintenance re-assemble everything in reversed order. Hereby, observe the correct fit of the seal rings located inside.
8. After this, switch on again the filter pump first and then the AlgClear UV-C-device.
Storing/wintering
The AlgClear UV-C device must be disassembled in case of frost and stored frost-free. Prior to this, thorough cleaning should be carried out and the device checked for damages.
